Assigning Browser:NextTab to swipe gesture in Firefox Quantum

0

I am currently running Firefox 67.0.4 (64-bit) on MacOS Mojave 10.14.5. At least on Mac, Firefox allows trackpad gestures to control certain functions (about:config, search "gestures"). By default, the two-finger swipe gesture is set to go back or forward one page. I want to make it switch tabs. The values to switch tabs are Browser:NextTab and Browser:PrevTab. See my about:config page.

As you can see, I have set browser.gesture.swipe.right to Browser:NextTab. Initially, this was the only key I modified. However, on restart nothing happened--the swipe did nothing. Thinking that Browser:NextTab might be an outdated command, I tried it on browser.gesture.twist.left. This did work. I tried other commands with browser.gesture.swipe.right, but none of them worked. So my question is: why does this particular gesture seem to be limited to going back or forward one page? Is this a bug, or is there something I'm doing wrong?

At a guess - I don't have a Mac with a trackpad to test - you have the problem gesture assigned system-wide in the trackpad control panel. – Tetsujin – 2019-06-23T07:06:11.507

I tried turning off that gesture in System Preferences, but there was no difference. – Rusty Shackleford – 2019-06-23T19:39:29.653
