GeForce GTX 1050 Ti works slower than GeForce 730 GT

My nephew bought a new GeForce GTX 1050 Ti graphics card instead of his old GeForce 730 GT. It appears that games are actually running slower on 1050 (~10-15 FPS) than on 730 (~30 FPS). The card was tested at the store and it had no defects.

Is it possible that his old hardware is incompatible with a new graphics card? Are there any tests that I can do to detect the problem?
