Desktop functions of Macbook Pro stop working when I connect a monitor via HDMI

I just connected my MacBook Pro (Retina, 15Inch, Mid 2015) via HDMI with my monitor (LG E2441V-BN - LED monitor - Full HD (1080p) - 24" Specs) and noticed after a while that I can`t add new desktop workspaces anymore. The plusbutton appears in the top right corner when I press F3, but nothing happens when I press it. I also can't resize two fullscreen windows on one desktop.

When I disconnect the monitor again these functionalities still stop working on my mac.

  • How many desktops do you have? 2. The Split function is not available on all displays setups [I don't have the option at all on a mac Pro, so I don't have full detail] 3. What are your settings in Sys Prefs > Mission Conrol?

    @Tetsujin 1. I have just one monitor with just 1 workspace desktop and my macbook monitor with two workspace desktops. 2. what does determine if its available on my setup? 3. what should I look for? Cause I think everything is at default! – LinusKaiser_ – 2019-05-28T21:07:05.450
