Upgrading my PC from windows-7 32-bit to windows-10 64-bit

1

I have a Dell Vostro 3500 laptop, which have widows 7 home edition 32-bit. the laptop was originally with 2 GB RAM, where i have upgraded to 4 GB (which is the max for home editions), now as i am using the laptop for some development work, so i need to upgrade the RAM to at-least 8 GB, as currently it is very slow, when i run Visual Studio for example. so i have the following questions:-

  1. can i simply download a windows-10 64-bit inside my current laptop, and install it?
  2. then to purchase 8 GB RAM and plug it to my laptop?

or this is more complicated process.

here are my laptop detailed specifications:

second point, which is less important, now i have MS office 2007 running, so not sure if i can have MS office 2007 with windows 10?

2Office 2016/Office 365 (the current versions) fully support files from earlier versions of Office, with the exception of Microsoft Access programs - databases with no code attached (only basic tables, forms, and queries) do transfer over. – Jeff Zeitlin – 2019-05-16T13:55:33.137

24GB is the maximum RAM for 32-bit editions; 64-bit home editions have no such restrictions. I have not upgraded my Office 2007 licence, but it runs fine on Windows 10, though it is completely unsupported. You will need to install it again in the new OS. – AFH – 2019-05-16T13:58:38.967

Can I simply download a windows-10 64-bit inside my current laptop, and install it?

You have a license to Windows 7, not Windows 10, the free upgrade offer expired 2 and a half years ago. You can download a 64-bit ISO for Windows 7 and install that.

You will be unable to install any 64-bit version of Windows from within Windows 7 32-bit. There is no upgrade path from a 32-bit version of Windows to a 64-bit version of Windows. This means all your personal documents and applications will have to be restored/reinstalled.

However, the process of installing Windows is extremely easy, you just boot to the installation environment and select the partition you want to install it to. You will want to delete all your existing partitions on the disk in order to assure compatibility with your system.

then to purchase 8 GB RAM and plug it to my laptop?

You will want to make sure your system is compatible with 8 GB.

So I might need a professional technician, to do this work, is this correct?

The Windows installation process is extremely simple. You hit a button to delete a partition then select the unallocated space on the drive you wish to use. The rest of the process is just configuring your user experience.

I have MS office 2007 running, so not sure if I can have MS office 2007 with windows 10?

Office 2007 can be run on any modern version of Windows, but due to the age of that particular version of Office, any problems you do experience will not be resolved.

@Ramhoud also from the screen shot i provided seems the Technology for my laptop CPU is 32 nm.. so i am not sure if my processor will support upgrading to 64-bit windows 10 OS? – test test – 2019-05-16T14:48:13.683

so the installation for windows 64-bit will handle the disk partitioning for me also? – test test – 2019-05-16T14:53:23.850

2@testtest - You asked if your system supports a 64-bit OS. My answer addresses this concern. Your system supports all compatible 64-bit operating systems. – Ramhound – 2019-05-20T15:18:39.270

1@testtest no more than 8gb according to the owners manual. – Moab – 2019-05-20T16:48:58.317
