The map is the same so I am unable to understand what the difference between both URLs would be. What difference does the top-level domain actually make in real life?

What difference is there when I use https://www.google.co.jp for searching rather than https://www.google.co.uk/maps?
The primary difference in most cases would probably be which servers respond to the request. For Google specifically, for non-map requests, using
