How to tell GNOME3 a machine is a pc is not a tablet or cellphone?

I'm having several problems with a minipc based on Cherry Trail with an Atom x5-Z8350 cpu. The problems loosely seem to be centered around power management.

One of the problems is GNOME3 seems to think the pc is a tablet. It reports a battery status when there is none, and then it shuts down the monitor and network when the battery gets low. It also shutdown the network if there is no one physically logged into the machine, so SSH is useless without a physical login.

I'd like to tell GNOME3 the machine is a desktop in hopes it will be treated as such.

How do I tell GNOME3 the machine is a pc is not a tablet or cellphone?
