I observed that usual read speed for a USB 2.0 flash drive is about 15mb/s while write speed is around 5mb/s. I am wondering what causes this difference when all the ports and hardware is the same. What is the reason that makes writing data slower?

Because writing data is a physically hard thing to do. It's not RAM where everything is easy to push electrons into a place and you need to constantly keep putting electrons there to keep the data, Flash memory requires actual force to make the data stay where you want it. – Mokubai – 2019-03-19T19:38:57.410
