Recover old IMAP emails & folders from Outlook 365

0

I have an issue with a local install of Outlook 365 (Windows 10), which was connected to 2x IMAP email accounts.

TL;DR Question: Is there any way of recovering old IMAP files & folders from Outlook 365?

The background: The IMAP email provider has gone bust, so no send/receive functions are working. However the folder structure in Outlook has been used by someone to organise other emails that were working.

Since finding & setting up a new email provider, and altering the IMAP connection password so that it now works, all the old organised structures have gone - clearly because the new IMAP provider doesn't have the old structure stored on there. I need to recover these, ideally.

Might a system restore to a point prior to the password change bring back the emails?

Do you change the email provider with same email address? Do you directly change server information for IMAP account instead of adding a new email account? In this case, this may be an expected behavior as the new server doesn't know anything about the emails from the old server. Can you log on your account with original server information? If yes, you can add it to Outlook client and then move all original messages to your new account. – Perry – 2019-01-24T06:44:13.760

@Perry yes the account settings were the same as before ("mail.domainname.com") - the new provider just had a different password.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to recover the emails, and for anyone else in the same situation, please note that System Restore to a prior point does not recover the emails either. – George R – 2019-01-25T02:27:48.500

Do you have other backup data files? I'm afraid that we cannot restore email if you directly changed the account setting instead of creating a new profile. – Perry – 2019-01-25T07:30:30.230
