Where is, and how do I clean, the waste ink absorber in the Canon PIXMA MG2910 printer?

My dad's Canon PIXMA MG2910 printer is having problems with the waste ink absorber: it's so full the cartridges were jammed and the printer ceased to work, citing a 5B00 error. Can somebody tell me where is the absorber and how can I clean it?? I swear it worked perfectly before we replaced the black ink cartridge...

It’s in the bottom of the printer. This usually involves cleaning the pads and the tubes and any pumping mechanism. This is one of the filthiest jobs you can take on. You’re likely to ruin your clothes and anything else near by. Take my advice, you can buy a new inkjet, w/ cartridges for $50. That’s way better than the mess of a job you’re thinking about taking on. If the error is actually indicating a full waste ink pad, then there may be nothing you can do if that code can’t be reset. All inkjets have a finite life because of this. – Appleoddity – 2017-11-16T02:59:43.287

Wait, 50 US dollars?? To be honest, I live in Costa Rica and use CRC, not USD. Do you have a way to convert that value into CRC?? Also, be more specific. It's in the outside or inside?? The pads I can handle, but I dunno about the tubes. – José Daniel Steller Vargas – 2017-11-16T03:27:52.957

They are the inside and the printer will probably have to come completely apart. – Appleoddity – 2017-11-16T03:28:42.547

Wait, the printer will have to come apart?? Ugh, I'm so leaving that job to the repair shop instead because I'm not messing with the insides of my dad's printer. Also, how much do absorber repairs and inkjet printers cost in CRC?? – José Daniel Steller Vargas – 2017-11-16T03:31:55.907

Not to be rude, but I’m not sure how you expect me to tell you that. In the US nobody would repair an inkjet. The time and mess to do this would far exceed the cost of a new printer. It may be different where you are from. The parts may not even be available and like I said there is a chance it’s not repairable. This may surprise you, but they don’t want you to repair those things. :) – Appleoddity – 2017-11-16T03:35:31.257

Well, I still think it's worth a try. [If only I could choose comments as top answers...] If the printer and repairs are far too expensive, I'll just pay for clothes instead of paying for repairs or printers!! – José Daniel Steller Vargas – 2017-11-16T03:39:46.090

And I'm saying this about 4 months too late, but my dad already bought a new printer. Namely an Epson Ecotank L350. – José Daniel Steller Vargas – 2018-03-11T17:22:36.843
