A number of years ago I digitized some old VHS tapes to the .mpg file type. At the time the digitization worked fine (both video and audio), but I recently went to play those files and they no longer have sound. Numerous suggestions online indicate that the sound data are still there but that I need to update the audio codecs embedded in the file, so I tried that through two programs: iSkySoft iMedia Converter, and PavTube. I tried selecting various audio codecs suggested online (AAC was the most often suggested) as well as various video format and still have no sound. The file says its video codec is MPEG-2 but I can't seem to figure out what codec was used for the audio when I digitized it. Am I out of luck? Any help is much appreciated.
Determine the audio codec you selected when creating the files in the first place – Ramhound – 2017-07-29T16:24:55.607
Okay, I downloaded VLC which shows the codecs. It says "MPEG Audio Layer 1/2 (mpga)". – ktalent1 – 2017-07-29T16:39:25.880
verify there is even an audio track you can use vlc to do this – Ramhound – 2017-07-29T16:44:07.813
Audio->Audio Track->Track 1 has a check mark next to it. – ktalent1 – 2017-07-29T16:48:27.490
