I have quite a few folders on my Desktop, to group frequently-used items, like shortcuts to programs or tools and documents. I wish to apply viewing options for each folder individually, more specifically do not display the Toolbar and the Navigation Pane, just having the items displayed as (in most cases) Large Icons.
The problem is that these settings appear to affect ALL folders, and even the "File Explorer" (if run as a program), ie this seems to be a global setting, and can become very cumbersome and counterproductive.
Searched quite a bit, and rather confirmed that the feature was removed or disabled, maybe already since Win7 (didn't use Win7 much, changed from XP to 8.0/8.1 almost directly, and then upgraded to 10). Here is what i found:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_features_removed_in_Windows_7
Windows Explorer view options for individual folders
So there's no solution as it seems, but a user in the last link suggests modifying the registry, however this is for Windows 7.
Could someone with a good insight shed some light here please?
Thank you in advance
The tool bar and navigation panes are elements of Explorer itself, not the folders, and not the "view" of the folders - you could NEVER set them per-folder in Windows (again, because they're not an element of a "folder"), so is wasn't 'removed'. "Large icons" IS, so if you set a folder to large icon view, it will remember it for that folder. Is yours not? – Ƭᴇcʜιᴇ007 – 2017-05-11T18:02:39.297
A very similar question has already been asked here before, and (not surprising to me) it has no answers so far: Windows 10 file explorer per-folder (per-mode) configuration of preview pane and navigation pane
