Is parallels 12 removing features?

-2

I currently have Parallels Desktop 10 for Mac. I can create VM's with upto 64GB of RAM and upto 8 CPU's.

On this page: http://www.parallels.com/upgradepd12/#anchor-editions

It seems that Parallels Desktop 12, says 8GB vRAM/ 4vCPUs for each VM.

This sounds like upgrading to parallels 12, would actually prevent me from doing what I can already do with Parallels 10.

Is this some attempt to push me into using the "Pro" subscription ? I also read somewhere on their site that If I upgrade to Sierra (Host OS), then I cannot run my El Capitan VM's.

Can someone clear this up ?

Yes; More then 8GB of memory for a VM is a Pro feature, per the specifications on the website you provided – Ramhound – 2017-04-02T07:53:14.470

Honestly, you won't gain anything on a MacBook by being able to use any more than 8GB/4CPUs. Save your money, accept the limitation. You can only assign up to the number of real cores you have anyway & assigning 8 out of a total of 16GB is a sensible limit too. You need a Mac Pro, 12 real cores, 64GB RAM, to really benefit from the Pro version. – Tetsujin – 2017-04-02T12:52:51.407

@Tetsujin Thanks for the reply, but I think I was misunderstood. I'm not trying to use more cores or memory or anything. I just want to know if I will lose any features by upgrading from Parallels 10 to Parallels 12. Do you see what I mean ? It seems like Parallels 10 already has the feature that Parallels 12 PRO does, so the wording seems like if you upgrade to Parallels 12, you lose features that are already there in Parallels 10, and to get those features you need the PRO version... – Kaizer Sozay – 2017-04-03T10:06:54.127

@Ramhound So are you saying that if I upgrade from Parallels 10, to Parallels 12 (not PRO), I will LOSE the feature I already have ? – Kaizer Sozay – 2017-04-03T10:07:37.170

The features of 12 and 12 Pro are clearly specified on the website you linked to – Ramhound – 2017-04-03T11:48:13.273

@Ramhound The wording is unclear to me, as to whether by upgrading I would lose features. – Kaizer Sozay – 2017-04-05T06:27:48.573

See the features written in green text, those are the features of the non-Pro version, see the text written in blue text that's the features of the Pro version. So specifically, "8GB vRAM / 4 vCPUs for each VM", applies to the non-Pro version. You will be unable to create a vm with more then 8GB with the non-pro version. As for the reason of loss in feature contact the company for that explanation – Ramhound – 2017-04-05T10:45:04.967

I found the answer by visiting the user forms on parallels website: :C

Yes, Parallels 11 and 12, actually have less features than Parallels 10. To get the same features as Parallels 10 you have to shell out for the PRO yearly subscription.

There are many threads on the forums on parallels website with lots of users complaining when they first did this is Parallels 11. Clearly Parallels management don't care, as they didn't change this in Parallels 12 so if you have the same problem as me, either don't upgrade, or dump Parallels for Virtualbox or VMWare or something else.... :C
