CnMemory with 2TB Hitachi HUA723020ALA641 not really new?

1

I have buyed a new external HDD CnMemory.
Now i connected it and checked the state with a short S.M.A.R.T test.
The result is really surprising, because it seems to be new, but there is a list of old SMART tests that show that the HDD has run over 26845 hours.

It seems that the harddrive statistics had been resetted!
Has anyone seen something before?

What program(s) did you use to run this test? What results do they give on your other hard drives? – music2myear – 2017-03-29T16:16:03.110

Google for Hitachi HUA723020ALA641 gave me a link to amazon.com and the very first comment by a buyer was "This hard drive is NOT NEW AT ALL. And not only "not really new", this has been used 15,123 hours in the past (internal drive data)!", so it looks like there may be a possible scam depending on your seller. A key seems to be that the last test is often a short "captive" test. – meuh – 2017-03-29T18:37:19.333

I used a standard short smart test (1 minute) under Linux with smartctl. The interesting result are the old tests that has been run before. Now i opened the case and i found the manufacturing date FEB-2012 on the label of the harddisk. It is 5 years old and that will fit with running over 27000 hours in a server! – lsmod – 2017-03-29T18:43:29.533

But i can say that the serial number on the label is identical to the smart test. I think this HDD is a retoure and has been refurbished. Now it is selled as B quality cheap as external drive hardware. But maybe there are some people outside that are able to reset the statistical data and sell it as new? – lsmod – 2017-03-29T18:47:24.870
