View Full Version : Disallowed Content On FTP

I conducted an audit of the content of the FTP. I had to remove a porn
video that I found. In the past I've had to remove music files. Don't
misunderstand - I like music and LOVE porn ! The problem with either one is
two-fold: 1st) It's in no way related to what we do. 2nd) Music files are
getting people sued by the RIAA and porn brings up the issue of minors having
access to it. I'm know there are minors who download from the FTP.
Granted there are videos but these are related to the science and/or politics
concerning our hobbies and research. Porn and music are for entertainment
more than anything else. Please refrain from uploading these onto the FTP.

But you must understand. While I do not agree with Porn, I disagree more with the hypocrisy of the United States. They are like Victorian England, they decree that its a dirty thing, while they churn out the most of it. On top of that they are the most violent society in the world. This combination of vilifying sex and pumped full of violence, leads to a destructive culture. /rant
But I agree. To get past legalities you must comply with this. And yes the ftp is meant to be for our usage, not a dump for someone.

Mind your language Charlie (especially when you refer to another member).
Regarding the FTP content I fully agree with the standards set by TMP. Porn and Music is entertainment. The content should at least have a weak relation with science and research (if not completely E'n'W).

@tmp
I was experimenting with altering format of video to divx using the newer divx converter that is available via a torrent (a new one, but I forgot it's version) and DAMN if that thing isn't close to Real in size. I crunched a AVI to one quarter of it's size and the material was much clearer. In the past, Ive pushed for divx because of the look & feel of the movie but it does really crunch it down AVI's pretty well. You could save a shit-load of space.

Well the main point about the FTP isn't weather we approve of porn, or music, or whatever, but that all users of the FTP want Science, Research, Explosives, Weapons and related subjects, and the FTP has limited space, so its limited to what we all want. (If you want porn try BitTorrent, God knows I do. :) )

According to a recent news article, it is actually the Japanese:D who are the top porn manufacturers, NOT the U.S.

Sbovisjb1, what does that add to TMP's thread on what he'll allow on the FTP? Keep it relevant.
