I have some very old 100% nitromethane, and I would like to know how to sensetize it. Attempts such as the hardener in epoxy didn't work, and I would like to know if anyone knows what salts are formed and how, when it is added to sodium hydroxide. Please do not reply with the standard SEARCH THE FORMS YOU RETARD, as I KNOW that AN works and all that, I just can't get any.
help appreciated.

Nitromethane is sensitized by amines and alkalies. Popular amines are ammonia, ethylene diamine and aniline. A mixture of 95% NM and 5% ethylene diamine is called PLX and is cap sensitive.
When NM is added to a strongly alkaline solution it will lose a proton forming the enolate H2C=NO2-. This enolate (nitronate) is quite reactive and capable of self-condensation. Depending on the reaction conditions you will end up with a wide variety of products.
I found that simply adding the nitromethane to a strong aqueos solution of sodium hydroxide yields mostly disodium methazonate. There is a thread on this subject found here: http://www.roguesci.org/theforum/showthread.php?t=5717
And yes... searching would have given you all these answers.
