UPDATE: THE ROGUE SCIENCE TORRENT TRACKER IS OFFLINE AS OF MID 2007.
It was a good experiment, but the tracker software that integrates with vbulletin is buggy and no longer supported or developed. A new version of the software uses a different backend that cannot be installed on the roguesci.org host.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The new torrent software is in, but that’s about all I can say about it for now. Not many configuration options. The software is fully integrated with The Forum. To upload a torrent you attach a file just as you would normally in a post, and to download a torrent you must access the attachment. That’s about all there is to it.

You must, of course, be a member of The Forum to upload or download attachments. I would prefer it if all torrents were relevant to The Forum please.

A few facts you might want to know about the software:

UPLOADING TORRENTS: You must use our announce url when making a new torrent. The address is http://www.roguesci.org/theforum/announce.php
Every page has a link named “upload” that has the necessary details to follow. There is a sticky thread in this section about making torrents that is now somewhat out of date. You will need to make a new torrent for any file you wish to upload to The Forum.

YOU MUST BE LOGGED IN TO THE FORUM: You need to be a member of The Forum and be logged in to download any torrents. The tracker uses the same system as the rest of the board to keep out the lechers.

RATIO’s AND WAIT TIMES SHOULD BE DISABLED: For now, and I emphasize for now, there is no ratio system, and no waiting time. The tracker is a leechers paradise for now. It would do no good to start banning people for having low ratios since we have no torrents.

PLEASE REPORT ANY PROBLEMS HERE: If you find something that doesn’t smell right, please please please make a post here. I can’t fix it if I don’t know what’s wrong.

PLEASE MAKE A NEW THREAD FOR EACH NEW TORRENT. If you create a torrent, start a new thread. If you create a torrent of an existing file try to keep it in a similar thread if at all possible.

I do not know if outside torrents can be uploaded, but I doubt it. I also doubt you could use a torrent at our tracker at another website without being logged in to The Forum. I will need to test that yet.

I have attached a test torrent to this thread. It is the only torrent right now, so it should be easy to find. As you see on the front page there is a list of all torrents with links to the torrent containing thread, as well as a direct download of the torrent file. Please download and seed this torrent. It is just a simple image file to help me determine if this puppy is working. If you cannot download it, leech it, or seed it I want to know! Please seed this file until further notice to help me out.

PS. I have not yet adequately tested if newbies have the permission to download torrents. Newbies are by convention unable to download attachments until they have 1 post, but I made an exception for torrents. Since I always have trouble logging in to my newb test account I will not test it right this moment. If a newb wants to save me the trouble and try to dl a torrent, please let me know about it.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news Mega, but it isn't working for me.

I get the error

Trackers Status: Error (You are not allowed to view this page with a browser)

I'm using Azureus 2.3.0.4. Ill try updating it and doing it again.

Also, there is an option with Azureus that says "Decentralized tracking". Maybe because of the nature of the forum, it would be a good idea to have this enabled for all our torrents?

Yes, the tracker does not seem to want to start, or the stats are not updating properly.

The tracker is fine. I'm using bitcomet. The torrent file opened and tried to connect but there were 0 seeders and 1 peer. After a couple minutes the 1 peer dropped off. Try reseeding to see if I can connect.

Has anyone else been able to connect?

I just tried it - It does not work and I received this message:

Das Räumungskommando, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

1. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
2. If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

I've downloaded 3.48 KB out of 43.06 KB so far. Still no seeds. There were two peers for a brief moment then it dropped back to one. If I ever get the complete file I'll seed it as long as you need.

It's now at 104.78 KB of 43.06 KB downloaded. Showing 0% complete with 4 peers. Still no seeds after 24 hours.

Just to let you know, I have a post count of zero and get a permissions error (below) when I try to test the torrent.

Mega when torrent first showed up I couldn't even dream about using it since mine conection was horrible, so I didn't even tried to memorize the instructions/rules for using torrent. Do we need second registration separate from the one we have on forum? I think I have same problem as rayman and that forum torrent tracker doesn't see me as member.

I don't seem to have permissions to upload attachments.

of the tracker.

Couldn't attach a .TORRENT file using the attachment manager, so I changed the extension to .TXT. Just change it back to .TORRENT and try it out. :)

File is "Safety and Security of the F547 Casks for Transportation of Nuclear Materials". Good stuff.

"Tracker gives zero length response".... whatever that means....:(

And no sir, some of us can't upload any attachments. No TXT, no pics, no torrents, not anything. What ShadowGeek said above.

The torrent tracker system leaves much to be desired, but then again it was technically a beta program. The developers have made a much improved system with its own tracker backend, but I can't install this software with our present host. Since I don't want to have to track down a new accommodating host just to run a buggy torrent tracker, I am afraid I will be removing the software in its entirety.

Perhaps someone will write working tracker software that can integrate with the board a few years down the line.

Sorry to read it.

You have probably already found these, but for hope's sake, here are some links to vbulletin compatible trackers I have found...

http://sourceforge.net/projects/vbtt

http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=82635

http://www.jpgrmusic.com/forum/index.php <-these peeps seem to have success with VBTT

http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=106239 <-this may be a decent alternative, as in run a private stand alone tracker, and host the torrents on the board with this, using a passkey system. Also, talk the the sysop over at SuperTorrents.org, they have a really decent forum/torrent tracking integration. However, the ST.org option may not fall within the realm of drop-in for vbulletin.

Good luck, looking forward!

I can't run those trackers with the host I have, not without a dedicated box. I don't have access to the box to install the required modules and run the install commands. If my host pushes me to a dedicated machine like they threatened, then maybe I can run a tracker that actually works. Trackers are nothing but a pain in my ass, doubly so trying to integrate with vbulletin.

A few months ago, on the roguesci.org tracker, someone seeded torrents for these two large collections of Engineering ebooks, as separate ebook files:
Engineers Library A-E 4.79 Gb
Engineers Library F-Z 4.36 Gb.

However, for at least several weeks, there have been absolutely NO seeds or peers available for these collections. Someone please reseed these, preferably with the original torrents (which I have). Thanks in advance

Chances are, its dead and not coming back. Try some of these links for engineering downloads:
