With this first post I wanted to present my design for an improvised shotgun. The picture linked to imageshack should answer all questions.

Anyhow I will also say some words about it.

First of all some general information: This shotgun is designed to be used as a secondary gun fixed under an primary airsoft-gun. I'm using it under my AK-47 rifle by Cybergun. Due to the fact that softairs aren't constucted to be lethal I'm using "only" half a gramm of home made nitrocellulose as proppellant. Although it gives a reamarkable recoil and hurts pretty much compared to 0,5 joul softairs.

The gun barrel is made of an aluminium pipe with an inner diameter of 2 cm and a wall thickness of 1 mm. It is surrounded by brown sticky tape to prevent light reflection. Which in turn could give away your position.

In order to reload the gun, the end plug of the shotgun has to be removed, wires changed, the new shell inserted and the end plug pluged back again.
I made the endplug out of tissu formed to a 4cm long cylinder. This is enouth to suffer the recoil. Again, the total shotgun is not designed to be a lethal one.

The ignition squib consists of 2 1,5V Alkaline batteries which are conected in prarallel in order to give a reliabele and cheap(cheaper than a 9V system) ignition current.

The ammonuition consists of an bridgewire electric igniter glued to the exit of a 20ml single-use syringe. The syringe holds up to 80 plastik 6mm BBs. I think everyone will understand or make up themself the schematic following...

I prefered the electric sytem because it is not as difficult(I know there is a better word to explain that it is not easy to make but I can't remmember it except that it starts with "lab") as a mechanical ignition bolt in combination with a primary on the bottom of the "shell". Especialy because I have no access legal gun primers and wanted to built a "safe device", which rules a home-lab-product out.

Some info is also provided in the "extended properties" of the image.
=================
Actually, this thread would fit into the "improvised weapons" section I prefer the safe way making my first post in "the water cooler" and let the mods decide whether this subject is worth to be selcted from threads like "Pure Ammonium Nitrate".

This thread made me laught in the first instance :p

With the wires, have you considered using a plastic connector for it? It would save time in relaoding, since you would just disconnect the old and slap on the new one. I've found wires to be annoying when using electronics, but actual connectors on the ends make everything great.

Interesting trigger design. How reliable have you found it? I can see it accidently being fired if you hit the ground... but I haven't seen it attached to the airsoft gun, so perhaps the magazine on the gun will gaurd the trigger. Is this the case?

Neat project :)

It is surrounded by brown sticky tape to prevent light reflection.

Your brown tape seems to let off a bit of reflection. Try using black materials as black usually doesn’t reflect light and don't use reflective materials such as tape.

Some non-reflective black materials could be paper and old clothes.

I don't think there's a field in the country that'd let you take this in, as it IS homemade.

Imagine the potential liability of letting people take homemade airsoft weapons...the very same people who light farts and hold fireworks in their teeth  into a confrontational enviroment with other fart-lighters.

Calamity (and hilarity) ensues! :D

On the plus side though, a cleaned up and revised version of this would be fun for those of us who never go to a proper airsoft arena and just shoot each other in the backyard woods. Methinks a last resort sidearm, a tube with a locking endcap that has the electric wires in place for ignition, so you could reload when not in combat. I'm thinking about a 12-20in tube you shove down your boot till later, not something you use regularly.

This also raises the possibility of other homemade airsoft weapons, an interesting topic for those whose cash is better reserved for things like food and rent and not quality ~$300 airsoft guns.

have you considered using a plastic connector for it?

Nope:confused: !
I spent a lot of time considering how to shorten the reloding time. Finally, Chris The Great supplyed me with additional brain capacity.:o

I found these luster terminals in my hardware store of trust:

How reliable have you found it?

I found it reliable enough to keep this design. Back in the times there I was constructing the main-parts, such as the trigger, I considered the usage of a switch. But rejected it because the trigger used by me doesn' t cost a cent and is easier to handle.
Also note that the median contact is now insulated by a straw which is reusable. For example during transport and reloading. The straw is removed just before usage. Therefore it had to be a really unlucky drop to end up with friendly fire. At least, I hope so...

Try using black materials
Dear c.Tech, the brown colour of the tape fits pefectly to the wooden design of the AK :D

there's no way you'd be allowed to use this attached to your airsoft gun at any site, and even if you were, you'd probably get punched if you shot that at someone.
for that matter why would you want to, why not just get a moscart launcher or airsoft shotgun.
look on redwolf airsoft.
