This (http://obsidianorder.blogspot.com/2005/01/very-special-effect.html) was posted on alt.engr.explosives earlier but seeing it hasnt yet been put here I thought to share it for everyones amusement.

So much for the credibility of the media these days..not that this would be surprising at all though.

Who do you guys think are behind this kind of bullshit? Clearly it has not been arranged by even a remotely capable authority, having so many flaws not worth listing..but then, I dont think a few random reporters running a show like this in the middle of an Iraqi suburb on their own without permission could get away with it like that..?

Wow. That's... Disturbing to say the least. I thought journalist's had ethics*wink*. Apparently they can be bought out quicker than a pre-election politician.

And yes. That does not in any way resemble a regular car on fire, or exploding. Of course, even a car bomb wouldn't look like that. At least to my knowledge.

Actually, I think they could get away with it. It's not like there's Marines on EVERY corner and a few $$$ would go a long way there to set the whole thing up. If it's a slow News day or your not in the right place at the right time Just Make Your Own News!

Course if your DUMB, you get caught at it with your own pictures telling the story that it's set up. But so what, the pictures and story got published, and you got paid. Sounds like a "normal" Media day to me.

Looks like the only bad thing about it, is for the guy that owns the car. Looks like the "lights" were left on and that's going to run the battery down. Damn I hate when I do that, and I bet the flames make it hard to "Jump" it to get it started again.

I would of thought that a car with a HE bomb, or just a bomb, would be torn apart in the blast, chucking shrapnel around. These hoax car-bombs are plain bullshit, and clearly, no-one has ethics. Just the fact they happen to get photographs of every single car bombing suggests that this is no set of coincidences!

Questions: What are they trying to acheive from this? Who are they supposed to be convincing/scaring? Whats their purpose?

Reminds me of the james bond film "Tommorow never dies".

Almost all news these days has turned into 'infotainment', but with news being synthesised, it's just entertainment. It's sickening to know, sickening that the media doesn't care what damage they do, as long as they can entertain people with 'information' they CREATED, so that they greedy fucks can fill their pockets. I guess it's all money for them in the end.

It's obviously staged. And one of the more interesting bits is the backgrounds of the 3 photographers- Particularly the one who also "just happened" to get all the nice shots of scorched & hung up Blackwater contractors in Faluja.

You know, a REAL explosion isn't a very camera (or camera man) friendly event- It's gone too fast. And the general public is conditioned to recognize Hollywood SFX (gas bombs with Titanium/Zirconium sparks thrown in sometimes) So if you're stageing a photo shoot, better make it look recognizable for the target audience, eh?

Someone else brought to my attention that the press has used the same supposed picture of a nuclear facility in 3 different articles- One claimed it was Iran and one in N. Korea! On top of all that, the the filename of the photo used in the RFE/RL story is "Iraq-nuclear.jpg"! Check it out for yourself (the filename of the photo used in the RFE/RL story is "Iraq-nuclear.jpg"!)

You know, with all the money involved, I find it INSULTING that people doing PR fakery and propaganda won't spend the time and effort to do a job that kids with a PC and google can't unravel. WTF, isn't stealing the largest aggregation of real wealth in the world a job worth hiring a few EXPERTS to work on?
