Hey guys, this is my first time posting. I hope I come off as a nice guy, well anyways back to my soon-to-be-comment/rant. I went to Wal-Mart today (I don't particularly like the place, but it was close) to get a zippo lighter. I asked an employee where they were kept and she inquired how old I was. Not wanting to get into a bind I responded with my age, 16. To my suprise they aren't allowed to sell lighters to anyone under the age of 18. In my opinion, this law falls into the catagory of not being able to carry a sack lunch on a certain street (an actual law enacted to not deter people from eating at the fast food resturants on the block, I forget what city though). What moron thought up that law? I mean, I am able to buy matches at any age, but I have to be 18 to purcahse a lighter? I needed to get that off my chest. Does anyone know if this law applys to other places besides California?

Yes, just about every law abiding establishment in every one of the United States.

I assume you want a Zippo lighter to light your cigarettes, right? (they're not good for much else as they make your weed taste like shit!) Buying the smokes is probably more of a problem for you at your age, then, since you will have to accomplish this time and time again... How's THAT working for ya?

Flea markets are out, because they NEVER sell anything even remotely close to a Zippo lighter. (Or switchblade knives, nunchaku, ect. to anyone, let alone a person under the age of 18 with a few bucks to spend). You are catching my drift, right?

Matches are more "fun", anyway. And free at just about any gas station with a purchase of any brand of cigarettes. Do you know what is the most read and ignored text ever printed (besides, of course, the Forum rules it sometimes seems?). "Close Cover Before Striking".

BTW you do come off as "a really nice guy", since you hoped... Don't they always finish last?

This is The E&W Forum, call me crazy but perhaps he wants it for lighting fuses.

Who cares? Its just a damned lighter and he can't buy it.

While old men start wars, fuck young woemen and buy lighters, young men
die at wars, wank, and are not allowed to buy a lighter. But adult men are
always talking about how bad the present generation is and how wonderful
his generation was!

Patricodog, there are things much worse than hypocritical laws - you will
come to realise this, and then you will put a bullet on your head.

putting a bullet on his head won't do much, although it could take a few minutes to find a good spot where it won't roll off from

Try your local Drugmart(you do have them out in Ca or is it just a midwest thing), a freind of mine bought one from there, no questions asked. Wal*mart, Kmart, and Target are going to be sticklers about such laws mainly because they need to keep up the appearance as a "family freindly" chain.

I tried to fill a CO2 tank at Dicks sporting goods a couple years back, and they wouldn't fill it because I wan't 18(apparently some law against it), then after 10 minutes of driving to the skate/paintball store near me, I walked in the guy filled it and didn't bother to ask my age. Another example of a pathetic law, except this time I found someone who cared for such silly things as much as I did

They wouldn't sell you a lighter ? Yet another example of the the nanny state
trying to protect us from ourselves ! Just find some store where the clerks
don't actually give a shit about stupid laws.

I live in MT and havn't ever had problems purchasing a lighter, a zippo, or the fluid. In fact i bout my zippo at the Army Navy Surplus store, I would assume they wouldn't break any laws knowingly.. (or would they?) I've purchased quite a few from gas stations too, although I havn't tried my luck at Walmart. Maybe its the hickstate I live in, maybe its the people. Go figure.

Gas stations often sell Zippo lighters and I have yet to encounter one that didn't have some apathetic guy behind the counter who could care less if a ten year old came in to buy a Playboy and a case of beer. That's how I got mine.

Zippo lighters are more economical than cheap Bics and other lighters. Refillable, less likely to leak, crack, stop working, etc., more reliable, safer, etc.

There's much better lighters out there, but chances are that the manufacturer raised the prices just to take advantage of people who didn't want to buy cheap crap.
