Ya some breaking news last night about a cache of pipe bombs that was found about 3 towns over. I live in The Northwest so it shouldn't be hard to tell what i'm talking about. I've been considering quiting my pyro adventures lately, and this just makes me more sketch. First topic I've ever started woo hoo. Then again I don't make pipe bombs like the dumb asses who got caught with them. I will post more information on the bust when I find out about it. If anyone else knows anything feel free to post.

I had to get a subscription to view this:
More than 100 pipe bombs found in Hillsboro home, police say
07:12 AM PDT on Tuesday, April 6, 2004
By TERESA BELL and SAM LOUIE, KGW Staff
HILLSBORO -- Police evacuated several apartments in a Hillsboro neighborhood after officer said they found more than 100 pipe bombs inside a home late Monday night.

The residence, located at 645 W. Main Street, is part of a duplex, according to investigators.
Police said they were initially called to the scene to conduct a welfare check on a resident. But after they gained permission to enter the home, officers said they found items they had never expected.
“It’s my understanding there are homemade pipe bombs of various sizes ranging from three inches, to six inches, and a foot long,” said Commander Henry Reiman, a spokesperson with the Hillsboro Police Department. "We've come to places that have one or two pipe bombs before, but nothing over the quantity that's in this apartment, at this point."

A bomb squad was quickly called in, to safely deal with the suspected pipe bombs. Police said the explosives were all safely transported out of the neighborhood by Monday morning.
Officers also questioned all the residents and arrested one person at the home late Monday.

Something is rotten in the state of Denmark... I am willing to wager that what they found was a singular pipe bomb, and lots of metal pipes and end caps. Remember that cops like to make assumptions based on what stuff could be. Just because you have a few boxes of cold pills and some iodine does not mean you have methamphetamine, just like a bag of ammonium nitrate out in the shed next to a spool of electrical wire is not a "bomb capable of killing hundreds of children."
We also don't know how big these alleged pipe bombs were diameter wise. Are we talking 115 three inchers of 1/4 inch tubing? Essentially firecrackers make of metal. I had some friends that used to make some of these with 1/8 inch copper tubing crimped at either end and filled with a mix of bp and the stuff from sparklers. The tubes on these don't even burst and they can be reused.
I just suggest this because end caps are expensive buggers, the bigger they get the price rises exponentially. A two inch OD pipe cap can cost more than a pipe.
Still it sounds like this guy should have spent his money on baby food rather than BP and pipes.

The original article I posted was quoted saying the following:

here we go. I found a link that actually shows a pic of some of the copper pipe bombs that were seised.http://www.katu.com/news/story.asp?ID=66048 Sorry if I was unclear but the apparently the police found hundreds of pipebombs. The guy making them was obviously a piece of shit, the police were called because of child neglect. This took place in Hillsboro, Oregon, theres lots of mexicans and meth addicts in that town.

White trash was making cherry bombs out of copper pipe fittings. Hardly a bomb maker.

Is it my imagination or are those pipes SOLDERED? I am assuming the fool filled them through the visco hole.
Something else in the story jumped out at me. This quote:
Officers responding to a call found enough explosive materials to make more than 100 pipe bombs inside one of the apartments
"...to make..." being the operative phrase. Following this story, it started as 100 pipe bombs, and then progressed to a few big firecrackers and the materials "to make"
Taking a quick look in my basement I can find materials to make a shitload of pipe bombs…Copper water pipe, end caps, black powder, smokeless powder, various chemicals, 3” galvanized pipe…all innocent items in my possession for normal, everyday household maintenance work and gun-related hobbies.
I hate the ignorant, slanted, biased media.

It would seem that this report is full of holes. One things for certain, the dumbass cops luckly stumbled on to this find. NBK, I have the same feelings as you, the guy making those copper pipe bombs was a total dumbass. Not even worthy of being called a kewl. I believe those are held together with caulking in the center of the device. However, I too thought that they were soldered at first. Caulking would hardly provide a sufficient enough bond to hold up against the pressure allowing the copper casing to be destroyed.

I hope that that pile of crap in the picture is not his work space. People who are unorganised and amaturish are often as dangerous as those who are organised. The difference being that the unorganised endanger everyone, not just their target.

Ya everyone including the toddler that lived at his house. I swear to god the kind of people that have kids , It boggels the mind. Once again this just proves my theory that americans need to get a license to procreate, and I need to be the one to issue them.

I'll add this one to my ever growing collection of rediculous news stories/over reactions.
" People who are unorganised and amaturish (sic) are often as dangerous as those who are organised. The difference being that the unorganised endanger everyone, not just their target."
Did you even look at the pictures of the "pipe bombs" the guy made? If you're saying he is dangerous to himself and possibly people he (possibly) sells those those things too, then OK. But it sounds like you are implying that he's some sort of terrorist with a plan, which is rediculous. What he was making were obviously noise makers, whether to sell or for personal use. The "foot long" ones look very much like they were just paper tubes as casings and they had "B.P." labeled on them (from watching the KATU video).
"Neighboring apartments were evacuated while the area was cleared."
 just in case one of the 3 inch BP filled copper pipes spontaneously "detonated" and sent a piece of copper shrapnel several decameters, to go through a wall and kill all the children! Way to overreact and sensationalize. I suspect that the police don't get much action so they have to make the most of what they get. After all if you don't look useful your funding gets cut.
I think the copper pipes are soldered shut, especially since in the video it shows a casing put together with a fuse hole and no fuse - probably awaiting filling and fusing.

I'm just paranoid, and I don't like hearing about people getting busted that live in the same state as me. Thats the main reason why I posted this thread, I don't really care about that whitetrash dude. It's just bad publicity for our hobby in my neck of the woods. I definitely thought It was retarted that the bomb squad was wearing so much protective gear to transport some black powder pipe bombs. I could understand if the pipe bombs contained some unstable primaries or something.

"If you're saying he is dangerous to himself and possibly people he (possibly) sells those those things too, then OK." - Correct.
"you are implying that he's some sort of terrorist with a plan" - Incorrect
I was implying that I believe he would have trouble putting his shoes on the right feet. I apologise for not clarifying.

To be fair, how do they know that the contents are stable?
But yes, I think it is mainly that they don't get to do their stuff much, and then go all out when an opportunity does arise.

When you have some stoopid idjit genetic cesspool like Mr. whitetrashbabyneglecter, you've got no idea what the dumbfuck might have used. Can't blame them for wearing the full gear, it's also probably their department's SOP. Also agree, they likely don't get to play with their toys much, and possibly enjoy "doing it up right". Now if they'd brought out the robot and the water cannon...

To bring out the robot in my area costs them around A$2500 just to mobilize it. We build suburbs on ex-bombing ranges here, so she gets a workout. I?m talking about rusted artillery shells. The robot is based about 6km from me.
These guys do a good job. Leave them alone to practice in any way possible.
It would be much cheaper to get me to sit a stick of bang next to the offending item, cover in sand and, ...BANG.
I believe it is good to know that the people dealing with the unexpected, expect it.
Also, for the Aussies, they are not cops here. They are ADF. Australian Defence Force. The Digger watches over us when we sleep.

And the journalists would be there to sensationalize every move, amplifying the "danger" 100000x. Hmmm, I guess we really haven't evolved much since the days of the collosseum...

Well sure I guess these officers are doing there job correctly. However, It seems obvious that this guy would be using black powder because of his lack of intellect. Meaning he just wouldn't posses the ability to manufacture his own explosives. But yes in the explosives disposal line of work there is no room for error, and safety is a must.
