I came across a liberal amount of CrO3 (99%). Any ideas that come to mind? Also any special precautions that are not listed on the MSDS? Also id like to mail it, its a nice find. Any good ideas on that? It will be checked before its sent.
Liberal amount = 5lbs of a very powerful oxidizer

Hi,
Is it Chromium Trioxide you have or a Chromate of some type? I have heard of CrO3/Methanol combusting well, i have tried to do searches on this composition, i found some links but i couldnt open them i predict that it would release lots of energy in a short time span, probably serving as a good rocket propellant? , personally i would be more than happy to convert some into K2CrO3 and use it as an efficiency enchancer for a chlorate cell, it could even be used in organic synthesis and reactions ;).My knowlege is limited in exotic things as such.
heres some links i think you might find useful:

(btw can someone tell me how to do the sub text tag, i searched but i got nothing, thankyou in advance)

You could use the chromium oxide to prepare nitrogen dioxide gas or ammonium nitrate. There is a rather vivid reaction between ammonia and oxygen catalyzed by chromium oxide. It will spark and fume in a closed system and red fumes of nitrogen dioxide will eventually combine with moisture to make nitric which immediately form ammonium nitrate in the system. This isn't exactly a useful means of producing nitric acid, but fun nonetheless. This reaction requires chromic (III) oxide, Cr2O3, and I don't suppose that's the stuff you have is it? Of course CrO3 decomposes at 250 degrees C to form Cr2O3, how handy is that?
GO to http://www.chem.leeds.ac.uk/delights/texts/expt_14.html to learn all about it :)

you could always make a volcano pyrotechnic, by converting the CrO3 to Chromic acid, by disolving in water. then reacting with ammonium hydroxide. forming ammonium dichromate. which, when lit will form the classic volcano pyrotecnic effect
