OK, this is going to be difficult. The idea of this thread, hopefully, is to get people to name one film and one song, that is their personal favourite. Also, if you can, tell us why you think it's so good, or if you like, discuss why you don't agree with other people's choices. But do it in a non-offending way, everyone is entitled to their opinion.
Try to limit yourself to just one of each, it'll be more interesting that way. Also I'm working on my film collection, I thought I'd try and get some inspiration.
If that turns out to be too hard (it IS fucking hard if you really try to think of your absolute favourite), then just use this thread for whatever you want, except anything relating to cheese.
OK, I'll have a go...
Film: Donnie Darko. I saw this a few months ago. It's very weird, but I really liked it for some reason. At the moment I can't think of a film which I thought was better, although I might revise my choice if I do think of one... I thought the music for it was well chosen, it was filmed well with interesting camera positions, and I like weird stuff. I can't explain it any more precisely than that.
Song: Err, fuck knows. This is really hard because everyone's heard so many songs that it's almost impossible to know which is your favourite. Same with films, but less so. For me it depends on what mood I'm in etc. I'll limit myself to one of the 600ish songs I have on my computer, just because I can look at them now and compare them easily...
Right, today my choice is Paint It Black by the Rolling Stones. If I made my choice tomorrow it'd probably be different, but that's the kind of mood I'm in right now.
So, what about you?

Fav song - Most likely Rod D - Clubbed to Death, or Air - Sexy Boy. Yes, both semi-pop/dance, but I do think they are very good.

Film:
There are a couple movies that tend to jostle for favorite in my mind. But if I have to choose just one, I pick The Boondock Saints. The thing I liked best about it is how interesting the main characters are. They are intense, mysterious, capable and have a good sense of humor. I like it when there are capable people in a movie (good guy or bad guy) since I hate watching people bungle things up on screen. Also it's got an aura of coolness which is almost as good as The Matrix. I could have done without the gay police officer though. He annoys me sometimes - I think maybe they should have found some other way to make him interesting. Another thing I like about the movie is that in it the public is divided about what the saints are doing. Some think it's good, some think it's bad. This makes the movie more realistic and hence interesting. I could go on and on but I won't. Better just to see it!

Tuatara
July 29th, 2003, 05:02 AM
Film: Amelie, as I mentioned in another thread.
Song: Eeech! tough to pick an all time fav. I love so much of the 80's music (dear, dear, showing my age now, eh?)
So "Six months in a leaky boat" - Split Enz : catchy homegrown tune,
"Vienna" - Ultra Vox, "Life's what you make it" -Talk Talk : love that really big, epic sound, and "Coming Home"- Blue Amazon : the girl has such a beautiful voice.

I'm not a fan of movies but I got slightly more than 2000 mp3s on the comp :) ..duh, someone probably got more! rrr :( I've always concidered "Nirvana - Heart shaped box" to be my favourite. But Mr.Cool is right, it depends on the mood, which song you want to hear today.
Btw, Tuatara, I bet you will like soundtrack from grease "You're the one that I want", this song is great!! (guessing on 70's?)

Favorite movie - Probably A beautiful mind. Because I mean, not only the emotion, but the thought that people would abuse a genuis soo much, and the fact that he was a genius, just makes it a perfect movie all around
Favorite Song - Probably gunmen by Funker Vogt off their Machshine Zeit CD. They are a german metal/techno group that gunmen is about how he was hunted so now he will go and hunt. A phrase perhaps.
"Now the race is on the run
I'm looking out for you
I'll catch you in the woods
And kill you if we meet.
Come on play the game
And fight for life
This is the game
Where I will survive"

Er.........Controlphreak, how do you feel the genius was abused in "A beauiful mind"?
True Romance - great acting by some of my favourite actors, great storyline, lots of violence and a happy ending!
Killing in the name of - Rage Against The Machine. JUST an awesome, passionate, powerful bit of music.
But then that's just today. Tomorrow I'll give you a different answer

Is "A Beutiful Mind" the one where some guy has visions of when he was a codebreaker in the war or something? I've only seen about five minutes of that, but it seemed good. Some day I'll have to watch the whole thing.
"Usual Suspects" was good too - I honestly didn't expect the ending, which is rare. Normally any clever twists near the end have been obvious since half-way through the film, but that one actually took me by surprise.
"Heart Shaped Box" is good Frogfot. Nirvana is one of my favourite bands, although I prefer the style of "Unplugged in NY" to "In Utero," for example. Some of it is too "shouty-screamy" for my liking. That's the term I use to describe any music where the lyrics are sung so loud that you can't make them out. "You Know You're Right" is a pretty great song too I reckon. Quite ironic in places, eg "Things have never been so swell, I have never felt this well." I think it's one of the last songs that he recorded. What I like about Nirvana is that Cobain clearly had a few issues, and you can feel the emotion come through in his songs. They're not like some bands, whos music is all made up, it has genuine feeling to it.
I'm a big fan of reggae too. Mainly when under the influence of, something...

I'm going to say Lord of the Rings (either film), because it's a compelling story, interesting fights and I'd like to live in Middle Earth... Except I'd introduce firearms and rule the place :)
Song, changes every hour, say New Found Glory - My Friends Over You, I like the guitar :)
This might be a good place to seek some help on naming a film I saw and can't remembner the name of. It was about a woman who goes to hollywood to become an actress and stays in her aunt's (absent) apartment. Anotehr woman gets hit by a car, suffers amnesia and crashes in this apartment. First girl discovers second girl, they try to sus out what happened to her, someone got killed or something, there's a couple of lesbian sex scenes and then the film suddenly ends without answering any of the bizarre things that go on. Anyone know which film I'm blabbering about?

Favorite Movie: I can't just pick one, so I will give a short list. Office space, The Professional, Swordfish, The Matrix(first one, not the shitty second one)
Favorite Song: Probably something by Nirvana(they were, in my opinion, the greatest band ever).

Song - Shine on you crazy diamond by pink floyd. Nothing compares to pink floyd!
The music is just so diverse. Not only is their music very instumental, but its poetic, and they were some of the first to use synthesizers etc.
Movie - Requiem for a dream. It's pretty slow at the beginning, but at the very end it all comes together and leaves you thinking.

Oh man....
The movie has to be "Blade Runner", directors cut.
The visual style, the noir aura, the whole 'is he (a replicant) or isn't he" question, the music (awesome soundtrack!), the eyes, and the whole gritty future (read the book) of humans building machines more human than they are...WOW.
For song:
"Red Barchetta" by RUSH. The lyrics paint a picture of youthful exuberance, wide expanses, wind blowing through your hair, thrilling chases, narrow escapes, all ended by reminisces by the fireside.
The guitar riffs are soaring, the drums...can't think of a word to describe them...but they're awesome, and the vocalist really puts his soul into it.
Now, as for the runner ups...
Movies:
Boxing Helena.
This is such a subtly sick movie. Doctor loves girl, girl rejects doctor, girl gets in car wreck, doctor saves girl...but cuts off all her limbs to make her TOTALLY dependant on him. Girl falls in love with doctor in the end. Such a tender scene...made me cry. ;) :D
The Vanishing.
Jeff Bridges plays mild mannered family man psycho who snatches sandra bullock from quickie-mart and buries her alive. Her boyfriend is stuck on trying to find her, so psycho tells him he'll show him what happened to her...if he agrees to go through it himself. Dude wakes buried alive. They ruined a perfectly good story by having dudes new girlfriend pull a Dues Ex Machina to save his ass and kill pyscho in the end. :(
Hand That Rocks the Cradle. (I think thats the title)
Rebecca de Morney (SP?) plays uber-nanny who takes over a family by making everyone else think that mommy is going crazy, while all the while seducing hubby, breast feeding baby, and killing off anyone who stands her way. Way to go!
Bram Stokers Dracula
Dude...Vampires ROCK! The scene where dracula gets weak and tries to stop winona ryder from sucking his blood to become a vampire got me all misty when she looks up at him and says "Take me away from all this DEATH!". Oh, and when dracula denounces christ and stabs his sword into the cross, which begins gushing blood (which he drinks), that really rates as a very dramatic moment to me.
Bound.
Gina Gurshon (SP?) and Jennifer Tilley as lezbo's who screw over the mob and run off together with the lot. The fingerbanging scene is an instant classic. Oh, and the snipping off of fingers with pruning shears into the toilet (and flushing them) scene was cool too. ;)
Full Metal Jacket.
Stanley Kubrick in full form with this flick. I especially liked the line in the beginning when the DI says "By the time you leave this island, you will be a Minister of death, PRAYING FOR WAR!" HELL YEAH! Oh, and when the main character blasts a gook bitch sniper at the end and loses the innocent eyes of a naive boy and gets the thousand yard stare of a killer...oh, shivers! This is also where we got the catchphrase "Me so horny, me love you long time." from. Every time I see a cute gook bitch I can't help but think of that line. :p
I'm sure there's plenty more, but I'll spare you (and me) the typing.
MUSIC:
So much that I like, but my all time favorite band is RUSH. They're so varied in their style, and so well in tune with each other, as only a band that's been together 30 years could be. And each of them are such accomplished musicians in their own rights. And, what I really like about them, is that they've never gone "Hollywood", like most other bands (thinking aerosmith and Rolling Stones as examples) have, thus never losing their focus on the music. Though they have ventured off into music genre's of no interest to me as of late, so I just stick to pre-Force 10 RUSH.
Believe it or not, I also enjoy that "spacey" new-age music like Kitaro, Vangelis (who did the BR soundtrack), Red Planet (the group, not the crappy movie), as well as others. It's just so relaxing to listen to. Hey, can't be a stressed out ax murderer all the time, right?

Movies: Anything with Nick Cage - The Rock & 8mm especially.
Cruel intentions, because (apart from Sarah Michelle Gellar  ) of the way she tricked him into losing her, and the way that the guy could get any woman into bed. He stuffed it up when he fell in love however.
Swordfish, because it was a great story, and because of the human claymores.
Lord of the Rings, because I love the ancient landscapes, and the brutal battles. The siege in the second was great.
Full Metal jacket, supposedly the best war movie of all time. the clips NBK were talking about I have on my comp here, but I know you can find them on movie clip sites. Also, the line "I hate the name lawrence, only faggots and sailors are called lawrence" I have a godd friend called.... you guessed, lawrence. He'll never stop hearing that.
"The usual suspects", for the twist, "Lock stock and two smoking barrells" for the great story, and too many others to name.
I won't bother with music. Too much to name, but I will say Acid trance is great, and I love nearly all techno music. rob zombie, rammstein, 28 days, mudvayne, linkin park, sevendust, and especially scooter and nick skitz.
Best songs ever: the techno remox of a classical music piece from "excalibur" and another techno remix that I lost the name of.

We like SMG too, but not for her acting skills :D yeah, yeah, grr
I recently discovered a rock band "Nightwish", think it was finnish. At first I associated them with Rammstein (for some reason) but they got a bit "happier" music, it's about ancient knights and stuff like that (have no clue how to describe this better :) ) "Over the hills and far away" and "Away" is one of the good songs.

Choosing a favorite may seem a difficult task, but I have but to consider the few movies and bits of music I have actually chosen to own and the field narrows considerably. The movies I most thoroughly enjoy are a toss up between A Clockwork Orange and Fight Club. Kubrick definitely has a stylistic flair that makes his movies exceptional. A Clockwork Orange is a compelling story of a future socialist world gone amuck where we have a cultured and educated youth descend into the throes of depravity and the thrill of evil. Fight Club is an equally compelling look into the inner mind of a man descending into what the world would call madness, but he desperately struggles to redefine the flaws of the world by throwing off the shackles of commercialism and defying the conventional norm.
My music choice is quite easy, I rather enjoy Beethoven’s 7th symphony second movement. Most music with words tries to force you to feel a certain emotion with the lyrics, I hate that. With classical music you can let the sound take your mind where it will and you can feel the emotion you want. Classical music has endured for hundreds of years and will endure for hundreds more, but the music of today will be scoffed and hated by our children, and our grandchildren will likely never hear any of it. At least no one said they like the corporate cookie cutter sound of Britney Spears or N-Sync (instant ban!) may their CD’s warp and crack and the RIAA burn in hell for a centillion eons.

I'm soon going to the V2003 (http://www.v2003-music-festival.co.uk/CHELMSFORD-LINEUP.htm) festival, camping over the weekend and a HUGE number of amazing bands in 6 arenas. Thread Deja Vu.
Movie: Arlington Road (http://directory.google.com/Top/Arts/Movies/Titles/A/Arlington_Road/?tc=1). It is one of the few movies I know in which what society defines as the 'bad guy' wins. Not to mention the excellent acting of Joan Cusack as the freakishly disturbing housewife.
Music: Apocalyptica - Fight Fire With Fire. I listen to a mix of metal, classical, and punk. Apocalyptica mixes the first two (metal, classical) in an amazing way. It has the hard, frantic feeling of rock combined with intricate patterns and violin, ...well, I lack the proper knowledge to accurately describe what I like about classical music. But whatever it is, Apocolyptica captures it.

Film: The Blues Brothers. I used to watch this all the time when I was a kid. It's a musical but at least it's R&B, Jake and Elwood give the Cops a lot of Hell and smash up a ton of cars. They always seem just to get away at the last minute and don't get killed in the end in some mindless shoot out, it actually ends on a good note.
Song: Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon. This album was written to be one long song but their recording label had them divide it into seperate songs as people tend to lose interest without pauses. I can get lost in this album, it's the soundtrack to many good nights in my teenage years and a beautiful piece of work. Hands down my favorite.
My favorites tend to be things I grew up with that have a sentimental value to them. New movies are cool, The Lord of the Rings is one of my favorite books after the Hobbit but, the movie is new and I haven't really changed any of my life habits because of it. Now the Blues Brothers was a huge influence, I mean, I probably won't even be a member of this forum if it wasn't for that movie. That might sound stupid but it's the orignal thought of nonconforminty that the movie instilled into me when I was a child. I think the first time I saw it I was about 4 or 5 and being that Jake and I have a similar first name I became "Jake" and my brother became "Elwood". And I tested the law every chance I had growing up, one day I was watching the Blues Brothers with my ex-girlfriend telling her "It's my favorite and the first movie I can really remember watching, besides "Smokey and the Bandit." She looked at me and said "No Fucking Wonder!"
Along that topic, "Smokey and the Bandit" is another movie that is in that category that I love along with "The Dukes of Hazard" TV show. Those were the days that you could actually run from the cops and maybe get away wtih it.
Quote:
Elwood - "It's a 106 miles to Chicago, we got a tank full of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses."
Jake - "Hit it."

I don't own any new found glory albums, it's just one song in my large "odds and ends" mp3 folder. I like my music to be emotive, powerful or just plain rockin' :)
Favs:
Broken by Nine Inch Nails, pretty much all three of the above

Fight Club is one of the movies I can watch over and over again. Fear and Loathing is another one of my favorites right now, I just love Johnny Depps antics.
Music - Anyone in the US heard of Bonnaroo? Its a huge music festival on a 600 acre farm in tennessee that happens every spring/summer(well, it's only happened twice, but it draws a HUGE crowd). Some of it's hippie music, and while i don't like hippies, I like some of their music. One of the bands is moe., and an awesome song by them is Rebubula. The String Cheese Incident(SCI) is also good.
EDIT: I don't know what to classify this music as, but Deltron 3030 is pretty good. Virus and Mastermind are good songs by them.

I hate the way how Tom Clancy's books are being degraded by Hollywood. Clear and Present danger is a good example of an excellent book fucked up by hollywood.

Notice how there's no ugly pop/rock/movie stars? I'm not talking just plain, but UGLY, like they fell out the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down kind of ugly?
I'm sure there's plenty of ugly people out there that are just as talented (if not more so) a singer/actor as any of the happy/shiny (and silicone) people that currently inhabit hollywood. Is there an unspoken form of discrimination taking place against ugly people in the 'biz, a liberal agenda to breed only uber-pretty faces for the next generation of starlets?! CALL THE GOP! UGLY PEOPLE HAVE RIGHTS!
:p
And, since you brought up being called fag, I thought I'd relate my observations on that.
Two nights in a row, as I'm walking home from work, I was called "Fag!" and other various common obscenities by people driving past me.
I've noticed that, if you're walking/have all your front teeth/aren't wearing oil-stained denim coveralls (with no shirt underneath)/wearing shoes/not holding your sister-momma's hand, that red-necks driving by at freeway speeds in their life-size Hotwheel trucks have the courage to stand up for the hetrosexuals of the world by calling you a fag.
Naturally, these are eagle eyed defenders of straightness, since they can obviously tell a person sexual orientation while driving by at 50 mph, from behind, at night, and in very dim street lighting. Must be that swish I put in my hips that's giving me away! ;)
My, how very brave they are to face an angry pedestrian fags wrath by running away at 50mph, without ever having stopped in the first place, after hurling such viciously slurred words from alcohol fumed mouths. I'm sure heterosexuals everywhere are proud to have such brave souls to defend their gender preference. :p
'Course, these same defenders of sexual orientation are strangely silent when on equal footing (literally) with the "fag" (me) since I've never heard anyone say such a thing to my face on the streets, where I could (and likely would) hurt them. It seems that such courage is only to be found at speeds over 20mph. How gay is that? :D
This is why I don't carry a gun with me all the time...the temptation to apply an impromptu lesson in eugenics via lead injection would be overwhelming.

Absolutely. Dropkick and The Business (to name my two favorites), all the way. What else could a irish drunk listen to? I also listen to a lot of metal, particularly of the Swedish variety.

Pulp Fiction
Reservoir Dogs

Boondock Saints

Honorable Mention: Falling Down (anyone ever seen that flick?)

At the Gates - Forever Blind
In this cell that is ours there is no pity
No sunrise on the cold plain that is our soul
No beckoning to a warm horizon
The sun shall never greet my eyes again
It is our world
It has been stolen from us, bastards
No goddamn sun
No goddamn pain
I've searched my heart for love
But all in vain
No goddamn sun, no goddamn pain

Song: Beethoven "Fur Elise" I find this song very relaxing, and enjoyable to listen to while working on "experiments". Runner up would be Skid Row "18 and Life"
Movie: "Faces of Death II" I find this film very amusing in a twisted kind of way. Runner up "Blow"

Movie: Either Donnie Darko, or Pi
Song: Choking Victim-Crack Rock Steady, Fear-I Don't Care About You (fuck you), The Pist-Were the Pist, Blitz-Criminal Damage. I have a lot...depends on my mood. I highly suggest everyone, who has at least partial mental function, dowload Crack Rock Steady.
Crack Rock Steady,
are you ready to stop
the rotten blue menace?
Let's go kill us a cop.
Crack Rock Steady,
are you ready?
Living above the law!
Po' little lice, the po' little screws,
the whitest gang crew, the hated boys in blue.
Like scabei on the street, they infest the beat,
fucking my life but I won't admit defeat to them!
Above the law, above the law come now,
No copper will be safe till they are dead and done now.
Let's lay em down low, let's hang em up high,
Let's take all of these piggies, and have them crucified!
Hardcore, rugged and raw,
on the streets of New York, we live above the fucking law.
It don't matter the color of your skin,
as long as you not scandolous, commit no sin to me,
or my tribe.
Would not be wise.
Time to smell the ganja, open up your fucking eyes.
Kick back, keep your attitude in check,
and give the crack rock steady much respect.
Don't ya know that satan is the man?
So listen very close because we got a little plan:
We're gonna have to execute some rich important people,
gonna burn down all the churches and topple all the steeples.
See a frown? turn that cross upside down.
Grab a gun or baseball bat, let's go to fuckin town!
Let's kill the police, I'll be saying little more,
But when the cops come to your door,
don't forget the choice is yours!
Riot sound, police come round,
With the bass and drum we knock 'em down,
Chop 'em up with the riffs an' in the stew,
Drinkin' pot liquor made of poison glue,
Pick it up!
Someone way up livin' in those high-rise castles
Wishing with the hope that I lick their assholes
with the beat we burn down those big brass doors,
Here we go!
Rocksteady!

I dont really have an all-time favourite song, right now I keep putting Fear Factory - Ressurection on, plus that song have a mad-arse film clip :)
Favourite Movie: no question about it, Fight Club wins by a mile. I love the way the first time you watch it, you think you get it, but everytime after that when you watch it you keep finding more stuff, and how it all ties together. I read the book after watching the movie, and I still cant quite decide which I prefer, both have changed my life more than I really know, or can explain. Plus, its the only movie with Brad Pitt in it that I can watch without throwing up ;)

Movie: "Fight Club" or "Ali G In Da House", the first is an awesome movie, the second is just plain hilarious.
Song: I really can't decide on a favourite song, it is a tie between these:
Breathe - Prodigy
Pandemonium - Prodigy
Feuer Frei - Rammstein (If I really had to pick one, it would be this)
Tier - Rammstein
Hierate Mich - Rammstein
Asche Zu Asche - Rammstein
Superbeast - Rob Zombie
Dragula - Rob Zombie
Liberate - Disturbed
As you can probably see, Rammstein is my favourite band, I strongly recommend their music to all pyros (watch the video clip to "Feuer Frei" and you'll see what I mean, I'm surprised that nobody suffocated due to the gaseous byproducts from all the pyro effects on stage and above the audience), they are pretty psycho too (Has anyone seen those face mounted flame throwers that make them look like they are breathing a 20m jet of fire?).

Being a guitarist, i would rather choose and instrumental then a song. So i would go with Orion-Metallica. Although there are alot more songs i like by metallica, and its also my favorite band. Lately i have been listening to Diamond Head and other old school heavy metal bands, mostly becuase i try to learn the riffs.
There havn't been any really good movies that came out recently. But I saw The Shawshank Redemption not to long ago and it is really good.

Spydamonkee, Baby's got a temper is another one of my favourite songs, But I forgot to add it to that list.
Have you heard "Hierate Mich" by Rammstein? Look at the lyrics, that is a prime example of them taking the piss out of an issue :) .
Have you heard any music by Disturbed? If not then you should listen to "Liberate", and "Down with the Sickness".

Fav Movie(s):
Fight Club. Saw it only a few weeks ago actually, bloody good.
Army of Darkness. Cracks me up every time for some reason.
Fav Music:
Bach, BWV 565, Toccata & Fugue in D Minor. Powerfull, baroque organ piece with Bach's brilliant use of counterpoint and dissonance. Needs a huge pipe organ for best effect.
Franz Liszt, Ad nos, ad salutarem undam. Organ piece, bloody long and takes a lot of listenings to fully appreciate.
Johann Strauss II, The Emperor Waltz. Extravagant waltz, beautiful hamony, melody and fantasic orchestration you'd expect from the strausses.
(You can tell I like the Pipe Organ, but as someone once said, it is the "King of Instruments" and is by no means limited to playing morose religious music).
