I found some sticks of dynamite where I live, the stuff inside is dry, Isnt'it supposed to be wet? Can I fix it? Or can I use it?

they don't saturate the powder with nitro because that would defeat the object of stabilising it. experiment with flour and water. if u add a little it will soak it up, if you add alot it won't. i haven't actually tried this so i'm hoping i'm right!!!

I suppose it depends on how absorbant the stabilizer is and how much nitro is in there. It should probably be greasy to the touch, try rubbing some between your fingers, if you also get a headache then NG is present.

Does the addition of a stabiliser reduce the power of the NG at all, or does it depend on how much and of what? I know that AN dynamite all detonates, but I can't imagine sawdust detonating. What are the preferred sorts of stabiliser to use? Thank You.

Sawdust can be used because it absorbs well and glycerinetrinitrate has a positive oxygen balance, so it will be combusted too if appropriate ratios are used.

I think it might also contain a few percent of cellulosehexanitrate, to make it more gooey, combinded with sawdust this could form a semi solid mixture.

the stuff i use is 1:1:2 AN:KN:sawdust

then i use one part desensitiser to one part NG

I tried detonating small amounts of ammonia dynamite with a hammer, and it seemed to only partially detonate. I think there must have been trace amounts of water in the composition. I'm going to try again, making sure everything is quite dry. By the way, ammonium nitrate releases some very nasty gases when it detonates IMO.

I've always wanted to test dynamite composed of NG and diatomaceous earth. Has anyone tested this mixture out? It is of course better when mixed with something other than an inert base, such as instead mixing it with AN or the like. But does anyone have any experience with an NG/diatomaceous earth dynamite?

Yes, this kind of dynamite works very well. It consists of 75% nitroglycerine and 25% d.e. It is important that the d.e. is dried.
