Reyna Chicas is the charismatic leader of a small Pentecostal group of Salvadoran immigrant women and children in California identified as an apocalyptic cult in the U.S. press. The sudden disappearance of the group preceded other alarming behaviors suggesting possible mass suicide led to a 22 hour police manhunt in the San Gabriel Mountains and Antelope Valley that ended on September 20, 2010. Nobody died, but Chicas was placed into "involuntary mental health evaluation" for a short period, while her kids were placed in protective custody.[1]
