Qigong
Qigong (pronounced "CHEE-gong") is a traditional Chinese practice, located at the intersection of religion, martial arts and Traditional Chinese medicine. The purpose of qigong is to create Qi ("energy") and move it throughout the body by coordinating breath with highly ritualized, focused movements and stances. Qigong is more than four thousand years old, its roots lying in ancient Chinese history. Today it is practiced as a central component of some forms of Buddhist and Daoist worship, and as a recreational activity.
Claimed benefits of qigong include elimination of hypertension, coronary artery disease, peptic ulcers, chronic liver diseases, diabetes mellitus, obesity, menopause syndrome, chronic fatigue syndrome, insomnia, cancer, lower back and leg pain, cervical spondylosis, and myopia.[1] None of these purported cures has been shown to be effective.
