New Apologetics

New Apologetics is a pseudo-intellectual movement creatinvented by Christian apologists in response to the increasing presence of outspoken atheists.[1][dead link] The New Apologetics has a similar aim to traditional apologetics - to defend religious faiths and to provide reasoning for religious ideas. What's "New" is a difference in style and policy. Instead of providing arguments in defence of one's beliefs, as traditional apologists tend to do, New Apologists move to smear-tactics and defamation and slander of atheist authors and activists, branding them as intolerant, racist, bigoted and unsophisticated.[2][dead link]

Irony

Insofar as it is uncivil, abrasive, and disrespectful of those of other faiths, the New Apologetics movement is defying the rather explicit command of 1 Peter 3:15: "But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,"[3] or, in simpler terms, treat the filthy heathens respectfully when they question your faith. In other words, New Apologetics is disregarding the faith in order to defend the faith.

gollark: It's... probably just neutral for humans, I guess.
gollark: It simultaneously does some really intelligent and really stupid things. Like how biochemistry is incredibly well-optimized for, well, biochemistry things and does things non-biochemists would probably really like to do, but also we have the appendix and eyes are the wrong way round.
gollark: Don't anthropomorphize it, it's a blind optimization process.
gollark: Evolution DOES NOT go around selecting for "the good of the species" or something.
gollark: In one study, there were flies put in some conditions where they couldn't have many children, and instead of evolving to have fewer, they just cannibalized each other's young.
