John Glynn

John Anthony Glynn is a journalist and hoaxer who falsely claimed to be a psychologist with a PhD. Under these false credentials, he successfully published four articles in Michael Shermer's Skeptic magazine, as well as many other articles for other journalistic outlets, including Areo.[1] He also fraudulently represented himself as a PhD psychologist to multiple academic institutions. After Shermer investigated Glynn's purported credentials, he published an article outlining the evidence that Glynn lied about his credentials, and admitted that Skeptic had been duped. Shermer also removed the two online-only articles Glynn had written for Skeptic.[2] Areo initially opted not to withdraw the multiple articles he had written for them, initially claiming that "…none of Mr Glynn’s essays, which were social commentary, relied upon his being a psychologist". They changed their mind only after someone pointed out to them that one of his articles was plagiarized.[1]
