Gaslighting
Gas-lighting is a form of mental abuse in which false information is presented with the intent of making victims doubt their own memory, perception, and sanity.
This is done by using persistent denial, misdirection, contradiction and lying, in attempts to destabilize the victim and delegitimize the victim’s belief.
Examples
Denier of an abuser of previous abusive incidents. Disorientation caused by the abuser by denying the existence or changing the whole story.
Telling someone to calm down when already calm, to the point of aggravation.
How it is exploited
Moderators and interviewers that aggravate situations and then justify harsh action against the aggravated person.
Gaslighting is present in many abusive relationships.
