Enchanted golden apples used to give regeneration V effect for 30 seconds from 13w24b to 15w36d. It was reduced from V to II in 15w37a.

Obtaining

From 13w24b (1.6 snapshot) to 15w36d (1.9 snapshot), enchanted golden apples gave the player regeneration V for 30 seconds when eaten. In 15w37a, it was changed so that enchanted golden apples give only regeneration II for 20 seconds. Since regeneration V is not obtainable by any other method, regeneration V becomes discontinued but can last a maximum of 30 seconds making this a temporary discontinued feature

In the April Fools snapshot 23w13a_or_b you could vote to get infinite duration effects. These effects could be random, so you could get infinite regeneration V or higher.
