Java Edition:Negative Durability Golden Hoe
During Indev 20100206-2034 through Alpha v1.0.16_02, a golden hoe had the same durability as diamond at the time, which was 513. Later a golden hoe was changed, so that it only had 32 durability. This meant that updating a hoe from those versions would give it a damage tag greater than it normally would have, and thus negative durability.
Obtaining
Using Golden Hoe
A player must use a golden hoe in Indev 20100206-2034 through Alpha v1.0.16_02 more than 33 times. This will result in the hoe having a damage tag greater than normal, however in that version it will not appear to have negative durability. Updating out of that version it will have negative durability, since the game is expecting a damage tag of no more than 33 (A damage tag of 33 would result in 0 durability).
Combining
Starting in Beta 1.9 Prerelease 2 these hoes can be combined in a crafting table to further decrease their negative value, meaning the range of negative durability is -1 to -2,147,483,409. However, once the game is saved the durability value is collapsed into a value between -32767 and 32767. To decrease the durability the items have to be at least -2 durability, since 5% of the item's durability is also added upon repair. The equation for negative durability golden hoes is durabilityOne + durabilityTwo + 1 = outputDurability.
