Java Edition:Elytra Broken Statistic
Elytras normally do not break in survival mode, at 1 durability they become unusable and gain a tattered texture. In some versions though this was possible.
Obtaining
1.18 Experimental Snapshot 7
In 1.18 Experimental Snapshot 7 elytra were changed to only take durability when launching yourself with rockets, this would always be 3 damage no matter the duration and once the durability reached 0 it would break.
22w13oneBlockAtATime Usage
Using elytra in 22w13oneBlockAtATime will cause them to break as soon as the item would take damage, regardless of its durability. The broken elytra will increment the elytra broken statistic.
The elytra can only be on the player's chest slot in 22w13oneBlockAtATime by updating with them equipped using world save insertion. This means the maximum the statistic can become is 1 without downgrading. With downgrading, the player can continuously update more elytra into the version and get the statistic up to the maximum of 2,147,483,647.[1]
Player Damage
In 24w36a (1.21.2 snapshot), an elytra loses durability when the player is damaged.[2] This method allows the elytra durability to be decreased to 0 and broken.
