In 16w32a and 16w32b, a bug prevented the player from adding any pattern to banners. The bug was fixed in 16w33a and banner patterns have been obtainable since, making this a recontinued feature.

Obtaining

From the addition of banners in 14w30a (1.8 snapshot) to 1.10.2, banners could have patterns applied to them by putting dye (in different shapes) and the banner into the crafting table.

In 16w32a and 16w32b (1.11 snapshots), a bug makes it impossible to add patterns to banners.[1] The only banner with a pattern that can be obtained during these snapshots is the magenta banner with black inverted chevron and black chevron patterns that will generate in end cities. All other banners with patterns updated into these snapshots are discontinued.

In 16w33a, the bug was fixed and banners can have patterns applied again in crafting tables, recontinuing banners with patterns.
