Hello there! I'm Jorge Arias a third-year Computer Science student at CalState LA.

I chose this major due to my interest in the world of programming and software development. The ever-evolving nature of technology inspires me to explore this field.

My ultimate goal is to become a proficient software developer, utilizing my skills to create innovative solutions to unfamiliar problems. I am eager to apply my knowledge from my studies to practical scenarios.

Skills:

  • Time Management
  • Proficiency in Excel
  • Collaboration/Teamwork

Programming Languages

  • Java
  • Python
  • C#
  • SQL
  • Others:
    • HTML
    • CSS

I am also currently open and willing to find out the inner workings of any programming language that I may or may not have an understanding of(especially since they continuously change).

Projects:

One of my notable achievements is the "Recursion Maze" project, where I applied Java recursion and backtracking techniques to solve precreated maze problems, emphasizing optimal solutions. Another project, the Adventure Text-Based Game, showcased my ability to create engaging and interactive experiences using Java, incorporating features like a comprehensive information system and a color method for enhanced user engagement.

While my expertise lies in software development, I am excited about expanding my skills to the realm of fixing and repairing. I see this as an opportunity to learn and apply troubleshooting methods that will further enhance my problem-solving abilities.

Here's the recent ACM Game Night that incorporated my hobbies and club activities:

I am an active member of the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM), participating in workshops that have provided hands-on experience with HTML, C#, and Java. Being a part of ACM has not only broadened my knowledge but also improved my communication skills through engaging in discussions with peers from diverse backgrounds.

In my spare time, I am fascinated by both video games and classic games(board/physical games). Exploring virtual worlds and challenging myself with strategic gameplay not only provides entertainment but also fuels my creative thinking. I also find hiking as a relaxing experience, appreciating the beauty of nature and the physical challenges that come with exploring scenic trails.

My experience in computer science and hands-on projects has equipped me with a strong analytical mindset and a keen eye for detail, traits that are crucial for effective problem-solving. This background, combined with my dedication to learning and adapting, helps me overcome the challenges of a repair-focused project.

Fun Facts:

  • I share my home with a delightful cat companion who can either be the joy to start my day or the annoyance to end my day.

* I enjoy trying diverse cultural dishes whenever possible.

* My music playlist reflects a mix of pop, J-pop, K-pop, rock, and metal.

* In some of my free time, you'll find me expressing my creativity through drawing, though most of them would be considered "doodles."

  • Before becoming interested and embarking on my path as a CS student, I was in the Technical Theatre field, which came with the strain of being a stagehand and the creativity of being in a multitude of different positions(such as light, sound, and house).
