Hello! My name is Mauricio Castro and I'm a mechanical engineering student at Cal State LA University. I decided to become a mechanical engineer because ever since I can remember I have always been interested in how cars and their engines function I have watched and helped my father when doing maintenance on his car over the year as I've grown up.
When I was in high school I took an architecture and design class and in the class, we had to shapes like pyramids, squares, rectangles, and cylinders to create a complex object out of something simple. To create this object I made a rendering of it on Rhino 3D which is a rendering program that I know how to use. Once the object was created in the program I put the file on a flash drive and took it to a laser cutter to cut it out of the material I was going to use to build it. Another program that I also learned how to use because of this class was Adobe Illustrator which I used to make a poster for this project in different angles and positions.
At the beginning of the class we built a building model by first making a grid and writing numbers one or zero to decide which part of the building was going to be eliminated. The parts that were numbered zero were parts that were going to be eliminated in the final model of the building.
By taking this class I learned many skills like building things with my hand and being able to create something on a computer and being able to create it into something tangible.
