Introduction

Hi there! My name is Demi Muyuela. I am a junior pursuing my Bachelor's in Computer Engineering at the University of Massachusetts - Dartmouth. I also hold an Associate's in General Engineering.

I am hoping to work in embedded systems or robotics, after which I hope to return to academia later in my life for research in STEM education. I aspire to help young and underserved communities pursue STEM fields, especially engineering careers.

Projects

I recently worked on developing an automatic plant feeder from scratch that would determine a plant’s condition through multiple sensors. I learned many skills through this project: circuit board design, soldering, project management, and even technical communication! While it was not completely successful within the course's lifetime, I work on iterations of the project in hopes of getting it working for the summer.

A second project of mine is less technical, but nonetheless a favorite. I developed a program for my workplace (a computer science learning center) that exposes pre-reading students to computer science and engineering concepts such as algorithms, conditionals, and circuit building. Not only do I get the chance to work with fun kindergarteners and youth-centered technology but I get to reinforce computational thinking for them and myself when I create and improve upon my lesson plans.

Hobbies

In the time I have outside of school and work, I love learning new languages (currently learning ASL 🤟), playing video games, and playing Dungeons and Dragons (as the Gamemaster 🙂).

Repair Experience

A lot of my repair experience is in computer/software troubleshooting rather than physical repairs. Other than that, I learned how to patch up worn down clothes. I am all the more excited to contribute to the iFixit community with these projects because I can empathize with a frustrated user who cannot understand a repair guide due to lack of clarity or simple language!
