Occasional translator and guide writer for iFixit 🗣️

Hey, I’m Benoît and I occasionally contribute to iFixit during my spare time. I mostly translate existing guides in French, my mother tongue. Another significant contribution is a tool to create iFixit archives enabling people without the Internet on a continuous basis to browse iFixit offline.

Education 🏫

I hold a PhD in process engineering and a Master in Automation and Industrial Computing. The PhD was done at Veolia. I was dealing with the optimization of wastewater treatment thanks to various artificial intelligence techniques and modeling. This gave me the opportunity to visit many plants and perform various experiments. Some of them were very smelly ! My Master was the opportunity to participate in a robotic cup, where we learned the hard way that working as a team is not a picnic.

Experience 🛠️

I love to tinker with things and I’ve always been obsessed about how stuff works since very young. I’m also a computer addict, and of course I built and rebuilt many. I already fixed countless things in my life, from very simple stuff like changing a light bulb to more complex stuff like car mechanics. But I expect this is only the beginning of my fixer journey !

Favorite Fixes 🧰

I love the stuff linked to mechanic fixes. While I’m definitely not a mechanic, I love the idea of taking things apart, reassembling them and realizing that the machine is still moving afterwards. My fixes are relatively modest so far, but I still make progress every year. I also enjoy fixes of a larger scale, typically to renovate a flat or a house. My favorites are electric work, plumbing and flooring. I also spend a decent amount of time in our garden, working with vegetables and trees.

More About Me 🤓

I come from a very rural tiny village in France where I witnessed the benefits of a Do-it-yourself culture. Except for a few months spent in Germany, I always lived in France in various places: Nantes, Paris and Chambéry. I now live in a lovely tiny village near Evian, very close to Lac Léman. Switzerland is just across the lake and I had the chance to commute by boat for multiple years to go to work in Lausanne. I have one kid and another one is expected for January 2023. I enjoy shaping my life and the one of my family and relatives by making tiny progress on topics around autonomy, sustainability and resilience.

If needed, the most public way to contact me is probably through Twitter or LinkedIn.
