Introduction and Aspirations
My name is Katherine Rolle, but I go by Katie. I am studying Mechanical Engineering with an emphasis in Renewable Energy at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. I aspire to create a more sustainable society, specifically through the advancement of renewable energies. I was born and raised in Montana, surrounded by the beauty of glacial lakes, white-water rivers, and of course the Rocky Mountains. I want to preserve these natural spectacles for future generations.
One way that I am starting to promote sustainability in my community is through the Alternative Energy Association (AEA) at Embry-Riddle. Myself and the other members of AEA focus on promoting sustainability on our campus, which is hard thing to do at an aeronautical university. Airplanes are one of the worlds largest contributors to air pollution, and at ERAU they are our pride and joy. In AEA, we are attempting to bridge the gap between a community that promotes the earth above all else, and a community that promotes getting off the earth above all else. One specific project that I have recently been working on is transitioning to the use of renewable jet fuel at our school flight line. This will reduce our greenhouse gas emissions as well as foster the promotion of sustainability in our schools aviation program.
Experience in Repair
While I do not have much physical repair experience myself, I do have a lot of experience learning. From academics to sports to instruments, I love to learn knew skills and concepts. I also love iFixit’s purpose and message, so this is the perfect community for me! I am excited to learn how to repair my devices, and help others do the same.

Hobbies
It goes without saying that I work to preserve nature because I love it so much! I enjoy going on hikes with my family and friends, especially those with good views. When I’m feeling like relaxing during the summer months, I like to float the river or sit at lake beaches.
I enjoy singing, playing the piano, and attempting to play the guitar. I was in choir from seventh grade through senior year, and continue to sing in Music Club at ERAU.
