Who am I? And what do I do?

Hey there internet users! My name is David, and I'm an iFixit technical writer emeritus. I had a lot of fun writing guides and teardowns from April 2010 to June 2013. In fact, on my first day I got to help write the MacBook Pro 15" Unibody Mid 2010 Teardown. For a list of everything else I've done at iFixit, check out the Contributions tab above.

What do I not do?

I am not a computer programmer, so I don't pretend to be one. I am also not a repair technician, so I don't pretend to be one of those, either. I am a mechanical engineer who has enough experience dealing with technology to understand how most of it works and what makes a lot of things break. My 3+ years with iFixit helped me to learn how to troubleshoot a wide variety of devices.

When I'm not working...

I have quite a few hobbies that I like to participate in outside of work and school. I have played the drums since 5th grade, and I am a lifetime member of the Cal Poly marching band. The weekends that weren't committed to the band, I spent with the Cal Poly bowling team, which I was also a member of. My most time-consuming and costly hobby, though, is definitely my car.

2006 Ford Focus ZX3 AKA Colonel Mustard

My vehicle of choice (yes, of choice) is a Screaming Yellow (proper Ford color name) 2006 Ford Focus hatchback. I affectionately named my car Colonel Mustard, and I don't think I need to explain why. I take iFixit's repair philosophy very seriously, and apply it to my car's maintenance. I do all of my own car repairs (assuming they can be done in my garage) and have even made some performance modifications. Right now the car is lowered 1.5" on Ford Racing progressive springs and Ford Racing performance dampers, with a Cosworth cold air intake and a custom 91 octane ECU tune from Focus-Power.

You worked at iFixit, so you're a total geek, right?

Of course I am. I love gizmos and gadgets, and I'm always down for a good physics joke. And to set the record straight, the original Star Wars trilogy is so much better than episodes 1-3.
