“Students are like current, they follow the path of least resistance.”

That was my physics teacher’s favorite saying, which he followed by adding, “except for you guys, because you’re in my class.”

I think about current as a flow of charge that is trying to get from one point to another in the fastest, easiest way possible, and that is how a lot of people live their lives. Like iFixit, I am the type of person that doesn't mind a little resistance. I value the journey much more than the destination. Whether it is backpacking through the mountains, hitch hiking around the Virgin Islands, or simply diving deep into my textbook, I am always looking to deepen my experience by emphasizing the path that is most meaningful rather than the one that is shortest.

Science aside, iFixit is about empowering individuals to feel capable of repairing anything. It only makes sense that their employees are people that feel that way too. As a freshmen mentor and certified crisis counselor, I have dedicated a large part of my life learning to live and teach by the empowerment model, and seek to surround myself with like-minded individuals.

From a person trying to learn about everything, to a company that is trying to teach the world about everything; I hope we can do it together.

Sincerely,

Sydney Lewis
