Use a plastic opening tool to fold the front-facing camera cable clips outward, away from the cable, freeing the cable connector.

Use a plastic opening tool to lift the front-facing camera cable connector straight up off of its socket on the logic board.

To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.
My (well it’s not really mine) iPad mini 2 does not look like this picture. It’s an A1490 and there is a metal bar and a bunch of stuff just not in the picture. The screw holes are there but no screws so what’s missing probably goes into that dead space. This ipad mini 2 has no dead space around the camera. There isn’t a single ipad mini 2 on this whole website that looks like mine. I guess I get to figure this one out on my own.
