Introduction

Intro:

I'm not gonna go into the disassembly of the gen 1 or gen 2 rechargeable lithium battery Xiaomi air pump. Lot'sa guide in YouTube academy for that. Even the battery replacement. I just wanted to add my own experience to it from soldering lithium batteries without much experience with soldering or soldering batteries for that matter, that they don't explicitly tell you upfront before you decide to start doing any desoldering!

    • First, is that using ordinary flux for battery soldering will take you forever and the silver plating will not even stick to the lead. You need to get a battery / steel flux that heats up hella fast and will stick the lead instantly to the plating and battery end.

    • Second, make sure to flatten your solder sites. I wasn't able to flatten mine so much that I ended up having a hard time returning the batteries to their original place, which made it impossible to assemble back everything into the casing. .

    • I didn't want to redo my solder as the plating I had left was quite thin and so I'll just wait till I need to replace the batteries again with new plating ready to replace as well. That is if the pump piston doesn't give up on me before then.

    • Third, nobody at the utube academy said this, but I do actually recommend lightly lubing (emphasis on light) the gears and inside the piston for some maintenance and to help prolong the life of the pump. It doesn't hurt.

Conclusion

To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.
