Introduction

This guide will show you how to replace or upgrade the RAM modules of your Sony Vaio PCG-F420 laptop.

CAUTION: Static electricity from your body can damage RAM any component in your computer. Either use an anti-static wristband, or ground yourself periodically by touching a large piece of metal.

    • The battery is located on the left side of the laptop, as shown by the red circle.

    • Make sure the laptop is disconnected and turned completely off.

    • Remove the battery by following these steps.

    • Pull the plastic cover down (indicated by the arrow on the cover) and then swing it upwards to reveal the battery compartment.

    • The battery can now be removed by pulling it.

    • Remove the screw holding the RAM cover down.

    • Use a spudger to lift the covering, revealing the RAM modules inside the computer.

    • To remove the RAM currently inside the computer, gently pull out the white tabs on each side of the RAM module.

    • The RAM will pop up at an angle where it can be pulled out without damaging the socket.

    • Remove the RAM module by pulling at the same angle the RAM is at.

    • To insert the new RAM module, match the notch in the middle of the gold edge of the RAM to the notch in the laptop.

    • Insert the RAM at the same angle the other module came out at and make sure the end of the ram is actually in the slot. Gently push down on the RAM until it clicks in.
