Introduction

Many vacuum cleaners have a separate pet hair and power brush head. The roller brush of the head can easily break due to wear and tear. Use this guide to replace the internal roller brush in the power brush head of your Shark vacuum cleaner.

    • This Shark model brush head consists of 7 parts: a base frame, a gear, a roller brush, two side screws, a plastic round band, and a top frame of the head.

    • Push the grey button on the back panel to open up the brush head.

    • Take the purple gear, belt, and brush out of the body.

    • Save the belt as this is needed to make the unit operate.

    The purple gear head is what I want to fix my blades are offset now. I can’t figure out how to pull this piece apart to line up the blades. Any help for this.

    • Pull out the side screws from the right and left side of the old roller brush and put them on the replacement roller brush.

Cat hair will jam up in the small gap between the gear and the bushing on the turbine and will cause enough friction to stop the turbine. I used a needle to dig out the hair and it solved the problem.

Thank you so much for posting this helpful advice… it was the perfect solution to fix exactly what was happening to stop the turbine on the brush accessory for my Shark vacuum. Because I couldn’t find info anywhere else, especially - and frustratingly - the manufacturer’s site, I almost ended up purchasing a replacement part. I so appreciate your suggestion here!

Another thumbs up for fixing it by removing hair with a needle!

After pulling the end off of both ends of the brush roller and clearing them of hair I also used the needle to get the hair from the cog end of the paddle roller.

It was barely spinning before, now its a quick as it was when I first got it!! 👍

I purchased a Shark pet hair attachment and while I was using it came apart I'm not sure if a part popped out of it or not it looks like a piece may be missing I will try to find this little piece I can't get it back together

I have a clean pet roller that is re-assembled correctly and it still will not work. This is appears to be a simple device that operates off of air suction. My roller brush component is fairly new but after all effort, it still won't work. This is the second time this has happened to me. I am assuming that others are encountering the same problem. What gives?

I took ours apart (Pet Power Brush 188FLI680) due to noise. I cleaned out the hair trapped in the shorter but wider part that is not the roller brush. There was dog hair caught between the small gear and the next part. I removed it with a couple very small screwdrivers and put all back together. Now the insides don't move. I've carefully lined up the parts. On looking closer, the gear is not in line with the roller. My guess is a year of pet hear stuck in there caused the parts to move on the axle. Suggestions welcome. Thanks.

Pulling all the hair out from INSIDE the brush assembly was required to get mine spinning again. The brush assembly has a small 0-ring that holds the caps on either end, and a brass bushing inside that plastic cap. Once all the hair is removed from the axle (as well as the outside of the brush, of course) you just put the bushings back into the plastic caps, press the caps back onto the axles, then replace the o-rings. Now place the belt onto the gears on the brush set it back into the frame, oriented so the caps are wider rather than taller in the slot in the frame.

The fan should also be removed and hair pried out of it, but at least on mine you can't remove the side with the gear on it so no point in trying. That is where a needle comes in handy. Most of the hair was between the bushing and the gear on mine.

Then you put the belt around the fan gear and set it into the frame, this one is more obvious regarding orientation. Should work like new!
