Introduction
Segway tires are thick and designed specifically for maneuverability. These tires are tedious to replace, but will save a great deal of money by being restored rather than re-bought. The tools needed will be three flat head screwdrivers, a large persuasion bar, and a clamp. There is a slight injury warning, however, to combat this, the user might need multiple people for assistance.
Tools
-
-
Use the clamp to squeeze the rubber of the tire until the tire pops off of the rim. Repeat this process until the whole tire is popped off of the rim.
-
-
-
Use your hands to squish the tire all the way around the sides to make sure the tire is off the Segway rim completely.
-
-
-
(a) Now that the tire is popped off of the rim, use the persuasion bar to get under the rubber of the tire and put it over the rim. (b) When you pull the rubber of the tire over the rim be sure to push the persuasion bar towards the opposite side of the tire.
-
-
-
Using the flathead screwdriver, wedge it between the rubber and the rim to prevent the tire from returning to its original position.
-
-
-
Continue pulling the rubber over the rim until the edge of the rubber is visible all the way around the tire.
-
-
-
Pull out the inner tube as you rotate tire. The inner tube should be fully pulled out of the tire by the time you finish this step.
-
-
-
Push the nub of the inner tube out of the rim of the tire through the hole it was already in.
-
-
-
Take the new inner tube for the Segway and make sure it’s deflated and is the right model number for your Segway.
-
-
-
When you are sure you have the correct inner tube, take the nub of the new inner tube and put it back into the hole of the rim that the old inner tube nub was removed from previously.
-
-
-
Use the persuasion bar to begin pulling the rubber back over the rim of the tire. When you pull the rubber back over the tire, push the persuasion bar away from you and towards the other side of the tire to put the rubber of the tire back onto the rim.
-
-
-
Make sure the tire isn’t all the way on the rim, otherwise the last quarter of the tire will be almost impossible to pry back into place. To make sure the tire is not on the rim, repeat what was done in step three when the tire was squished off of the rim.
-
-
-
Once the inner tube has been completely seated again, then you can inflate the inner tube and will successfully have a replaced inner tube in your Segway tire.
