Introduction

With this guide, you will be able to remove, replace, and/or change the position of the guard on your Ridgid Brushless R86040. You should replace the guard anytime it becomes bent or damaged as this is a safety hazard. Users may also wish to rotate the guard to its various positions for different cutting and grinding angles. Before you begin, make sure the power is off, the battery is not attached to the device, and the cutting blade has been removed.

    • Identify the silver lever behind by where the guard and blade are located.

Avoid instructions like “to the right of the device,” because you can’t guarantee the user has oriented the device in the same way that you are holding in, and because the lever is a part of the device, not to the right of it. Can you say something like, “Identify the silver lever located behind the guard.”?

    • While pressing the lever, spin the guard clockwise. The teeth holding it together will line up and the guard will detach from the rest of the device.

Conclusion

To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.
