Razer DeathAdder Chroma Scroll Wheel Replacement

Introduction

The Razer DeathAdder Chroma may experience faulty scroll wheel operation, such as a stuck wheel or having a non-functional scroll wheel click. This guide will show you how to access the scroll wheel for cleaning or replacement.

Tools

Step 1

Opening the mouse casing will void any warranty that exists for the mouse.
Turn the mouse over so the bottom is facing up.

Step 2

Use the blunt end of the spudger to pry the adhesive rubber pads from the top left and right edges.

Step 3

Use a Phillips #0 screwdriver to remove two 6.7 mm screws.

Step 4

Use your fingers to identify the location of the screw under the bottom label.

Step 5

Use a Phillips #0 screwdriver to remove one 6.7 mm screw.
Clear the label away from around the screw for easier removal.

Step 6

Turn the mouse over so the bottom is facing down.
Separate the top casing from the bottom base by pulling the top casing upwards.
Separating the casing too quickly could damage the ribbon connector between the motherboard and the LED lights.

Step 7

Disconnect the ribbon connector between the motherboard and the LED lights by pulling upward.
Pulling too hard could damage the wire connections.

Step 8

Disconnect the ribbon connector between the motherboard and the USB cable by pulling upward.

There are 2 tiny locking pins at the back you may need to spudge the connector casing a bit on each side to release these , I did.

Use a Phillips #0 screwdriver to remove three 5.5 mm screws.

Step 10

Use a Phillips #0 screwdriver to remove two 11.5 mm screws on the side buttons.

Step 11

Use a Phillips #000 screwdriver to remove one 5.0 mm screw.

Does anyone know what the circuitry this screw holds in place does, I completely missed this tiny screw and accidently snapped the 2 soldered components off named D2 & D3… But the mouse still works fine ?? however i do not use razer synapse anymore so i dont know if its 100% working

Never mind it just came to my attention there is a set of LEDs in the mouse wheel which is what that tiny board is, soo …. RIP Mouse Wheel LEDs

Step 12

Disconnect the ribbon connector between the motherboard and the optical sensor.

Step 13

Remove the motherboard by grasping the sides and gently pulling upward.

Step 14

Remove the scroll wheel from the socket by pulling to the right.
Pulling too hard could damage the scroll wheel connector.

And then what? Where’s the fix?

My problem with the mouse is the central click. The wheel works fine, it’s just the button switch who sometime works and other 100 no. I’m not very expert, but i guess i can desolder it easily and put a new one if i only know where to buy the exact same switch to replace.

It's a hard one to find a replacement for, at least from other mice. You can make it work again for a while by pressing it down extra far when it's disassembled like this, (presumably cleans the dodgy contacts) but that gets to be annoying pretty quick. I eventually replaced mine with a Microsoft intellimouse classic, though I've read that the middle click in some of the Logitech mice are nice and robust if that's a button you use a lot like me.

i fixed the middle click with machine oil, wd-40 would do as well. dont have to replace anything. and it doesn’t break again. 1-2 drops of oil or wd-40 on the actual switch, which repels the dust or something i dont know

I have an issue with my scroll wheel where when i scroll down, it scrolls down and then back up. Is there a way to fix it? I would greatly appreciate a response. Searching on google has given me no answer as to what to do. My warranty just expired.

Mine has the same problem. I’m going to try opening it up and see if there’s anything to fix/clean/lubricate.
