These next steps will guide you to correctly installing the graphics card in your computer.

    • To avoid electrocution, shut down the computer. Do not open the computer or attempt to install any items inside it while the computer is on.

    • To avoid being burned, wait at least 10 minutes to allow the computer's internal components to cool.

    • Using a Phillips # 1 screw driver, unscrew the screw right next to the graphics card.

  7. qKmfpu4rpfdoB5JB
    • Last thing to do is to gently shake the card out of it's slot by pulling it straight out. (If the card does not come out easily, don't force it. You need to release a latch on the logic board behind the AGP connector while pulling out the video card.)

Conclusion

To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.

Hi Salvador,

Many thanks for the guide. I already knew all the steps until the ‘secret’ release mechanism, which is why I came to this page.

So, it would be really handy for future viewers if you included a picture of the position and design of the release latch. It would have saved me from fumbling around for 15 minutes pressing an unrelated button, which is situated just behind the release latch.

I agree. The most important step for this to be helpful, the release mechanism, is not shown at all.

I agree too, maybe we could add a picture?

What are some compatible graphics cards to replace the one that's in the Mac by default? I tried taking it out and giving it time to rest. Then plugged it back in and it still doesn't work when I use a monitor on it. Any suggestions?
