Introduction
In this guide, you will learn how to lubricate the tuning slider on a General Electric Telephone 2-9710A. This may become necessary if the tuning slider becomes stuck.
The General Electric Telephone 2-9710A has a built-in AM/FM radio. The tuning slider allows you to search for the radio station you wish to listen to. If the slider becomes stuck, you will not be able to change radio stations. Upon completion of this guide, the tuning slider will operate smoothly.
You will need to disassemble the shell of the telephone to lubricate the tuning slider. Before beginning, ensure that access to all power sources has been cut off.

Using a plastic opening tool, remove the phone cord from the phone jack at the base of the headset.

Remove the 7.5 mm screw.

Remove the screw cap.

Pull up the phone cord to remove it from the base.

Remove the battery compartment door (located on the bottom of the radio) by applying thumb pressure to the area indicated on the battery door.

Slide the door off of the battery compartment.

Remove the battery from the phone.

Locate the volume dial on the right side of the telephone.

Remove the volume dial by gently grasping it and pulling it away from the base.

Remove the three 12 mm screws with a Phillips #1 screwdriver.

Remove the three 18 mm screws with a Phillips #1 screwdriver.

Turn the tuning slider counterclockwise until the slider stops.

Apply lubricant to the slider rail.

Turn the tuning slider back and forth to distribute the lubricant.

To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.
