Introduction

The trackpad for the IBM Lenovo Thinkpad T61 lets you navigate your mouse around the screen. If your trackpad is causing the mouse to jump around or simply not move, it may be due for a replacement. Follow these steps to install a new trackpad.

Be sure to disconnect your computer from any power source and remove the battery before beginning work.

    • With the screws removed, the trackpad panel should lift as shown. Gently lift so the inside is visible.

    • Gently remove the white plug to disconnect the trackpad panel from the bottom of the computer.

    • Use the screwdriver to remove the four screws from the trackpad. Two of the screws are located just under the plastic.

    • Separate the trackpad with the bottom mouse buttons from the trackpad panel.

    • Align the new trackpad so the screw holes line up with their insertion points. Replace the screws with the screwdriver.
