    • Tie a knot two inches from the end of the thread.

    • Place the opposite end of the thread into a sewing needle.

    • Rubbing or wetting the end of the thread may make it easier to insert the thread into the sewing needle.

    • Align the metal rib with the region of the fabric panel that it detached from.

    • If necessary, use scotch tape to secure the metal rib into position so it does not lift up.

    • Be careful to avoid injury when using a sharp sewing needle.

    • Insert the sewing needle through the umbrella fabric panel and pull the thread through.

    • Pull the sewing needle and thread across to wrap around the metal rib.

    • Repeat Steps 4 and 5 until the metal rib is tightly secured to the fabric panel. Three additional loops is recommended.

    • Tie the loose end of the string to the end of the string with the knot from Step 2.

    • Use scissors to cut off any excess thread.

What sort of thread did you use? Yours seems quite thick, a lot thicker than the standard threads.
